Scope of Responsibilities
The Senior Finance Associate plays a crucial role in helping to administer GYC’s finances and human resources. The position is responsible for processing payroll and accounts payable, periodic reconciliation of balance sheet accounts (primarily payroll, accounts payable, and other accrued liabilities), review of financial statements, and assisting with human resources administration. The Senior Finance Associate works closely with the Director of Finance to maintain and improve GYC’s accounting systems, records, and reports as well as written policies and procedures. In addition, the position provides support to the Director of Operations, which may include aspects of personnel records and benefits administration in relation to payroll. The position relies on relevant experience and sound judgment regarding GYC’s financial systems, policies, and processes.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll and general ledger.
- Process semi-monthly payroll. Maintain accuracy of payroll data and review quarterly reports. Keep current with applicable payroll tax and reporting requirements.
- Process invoices and comply with all reporting requirements by maintaining vendor master records.
- Reconcile cash and investment accounts.
- Prepare year end 1099s, checking for accuracy and compliance.
- Download monthly credit card charges and review account coding for appropriateness. Reconcile accounts payable and payroll liability accounts to the subsidiary ledgers.
- Coordinate the management of restricted grant funding with Director of Finance, program, and development staff.
- Assist the Director of Finance with monthly and quarterly financial report preparation and review. Also assist with annual audit preparation by preparing reconciliations and adjustments as needed.
- Assist staff with their budget vs actual reports and accounting inquiries.
- Assist the Director of Operations with human resource administration including employee benefit enrollment, job applicants, and new hire paperwork.
- Assist with other tasks and duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in business or other relevant field with an accounting emphasis preferred, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum of 4 years’ experience with processing payroll, accounts payable, and benefit administration.
- Knowledge of Accounting principles, practices, and techniques.
- Knowledge of payroll and employment tax regulations (Federal and State), practices, and procedures.
- High attention to detail and accuracy.
- Ability to analyze and interpret financial information.
- Ability to organize and prioritize multiple tasks, meet deadlines, and exercise adaptability to changing priorities while maintaining a positive, effective, and professional approach.
- Ability to exercise initiative and use good judgement.
- Ability to maintain confidential information.
- Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
- Experience with Financial Edge software or similar accounting software.
- Experience with Paycor online payroll software or similar payroll database.
- Experience managing restricted grant funding a plus.
- Commitment to and understanding of Greater Yellowstone Coalition’s mission and goals.
Compensation and Benefits
- Salary range is $66,000-70,000 depending on experience.

Physical Demands & Working Conditions
GYC is committed to honoring and improving accommodations within our existing infrastructure.
