Position Description
Title: Banquet Bartender
Reports to: Corporate and Social Event Coordinator
Status: Seasonal,Non-Exempt
Hours: 10-20 hours per week (minimum 2-4 shifts a month based on events) May-October & possibly December
Position Summary
Join a team that values the diverse talents and ideas of each staff member at Green Bay Botanical Garden. We are looking for energetic, reliable, hardworking, friendly individuals to serve alcoholic & non-alcoholic beverages responsibly to our guests at private events/rentals this upcoming 2023 season. Green Bay Botanical Garden is a nonprofit organization that hosts 50 weddings, private member events, fundraisers, outdoor concerts, company picnics, corporate and social parties. We are looking for individuals who will assist with bar set up, bartending and breakdown of the portable bar at the end of each event. Compensation includes hourly wage and tips for private rentals. Increased hourly wage for Garden events without tips.
Core Competencies & Essential Functions
- Demonstrates and embodies Green Bay Botanical Garden’s Culture and Customer Service values.
- Check guests for proper identification & age requirements.
- Serve alcoholic beverages responsibly and adhere to all alcohol service policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and company laws and regulations.
- Handle set-up, breakdown, and clean-up of assigned portable bar.
- Receives drink orders from guests, serves alcohol and non-alcohol drinks to guests, examples of beverages: soda, water, wine, canned beer, canned cocktails, and basic mixed drinks.
- Properly record all transactions via the point-of-sale system and confirm order and inform guests of the amounts owed, process payments either credit card or cash and determine correct change for guests.
- Always ensure compliance with the Garden’s cash handling policy.
- Accurately and efficiently complete all sale transactions and maintain proper cash drawer accountabilities.
- Handle set up of bar area, arrange inventory, and notify supervisor of any inventory deficiency or shortage.
- Handle all preparation of bar products, mixing ingredients, and serving drinks.
- Ensure solid product knowledge of all items being sold on the menu.
- Acquaint guests with items for sale and use proper selling techniques.
- Gauge customers’ needs and preferences and make recommendations.
- Maintaining cleanliness and sanitation of the work area, including cleaning equipment.
- Perform breakdown of all products and supplies that are pulled and return product to the appropriate storage location.
Qualifications, Skills, & Physical Requirements
- Must be 18 years old or older, complete a certified Wisconsin Responsible Beverage Server course, and obtain a Wisconsin Bartender’s License (Alcohol Operator’s License)
- Experience working as a bartender is required.
- Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills
- Attention to detail.
- Computer literacy, ability to understand and use POS/Cash register system for orders.
- Ability to multitask.
- Must be able to interact with the guests in a confident and professional manner.
- Demonstrate excellent listening and clear speaking skills.
- Position is active indoors and outdoors in all types of weather conditions and includes but is not limited to lifting (up to 50 pounds), bending, standing, and walking throughout the event.
- Position requires afternoons, nights, and weekends.
