Your Role as a Part-Time Transition Counselor

  •  Implement Social-Emotional Interventions – Apply the CPS model and other mental health methodologies (CBT, DBT, family systems, etc.) to support students’ emotional and behavioral development.
  •  Deliver Student Support Services – Provide proactive, preventative, and reactive interventions, including de-escalation and ongoing plan implementation, to meet students’ individual needs.
  •  Coach Staff and Families – Teach, mentor, and guide educators and parents in applying the CPS model and other therapeutic approaches to support student growth.
  •  Coordinate Community-Based Learning – Identify and develop internship and externship opportunities, educate placement sites about student needs, and monitor student progress in these settings.
  •  Foster Collaborative Partnerships – Work with school districts and community programs to create enriching internship and postsecondary opportunities for students.
  •  Serve as School Liaison – Collaborate with the Division Leader to coordinate student partnerships with external programs and postsecondary pathways.
  •  Maintain Professional Documentation – Complete and manage all required legal and educational records, including PPTs, IEPs, assessments, progress monitoring, and quarterly reports.
  •  Develop Transition Programs – Partner with counseling staff to design postsecondary transition programs focused on independent living skills and community integration.
  •  Design Life Skills Curriculum – Create and implement curriculum that enhances executive functioning, decision-making, problem-solving, self-advocacy, and other essential life skills.

Required Qualifications:

  • Masters degree in Special Education or related field in pupil personnel services
  • Valid Connecticut state endorsement 068-School Counselor
  • Minimum 2 years experience working with students with language-based learning differences preferably at the High School level
  • Must be authorized to work in the United States without employer sponsorship.
