Job Description:


Our transportation team helps improve the connectivity of the community through solutions that support the safe and efficient movement of goods, services and people.

We are looking for a Construction Engineering Inspector to join our Transportation Market in Nashville, TN.

Responsibilities:

  • Perform Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS) inspection for compliance with the Department of Tennessee standards and manuals.
  • Oversee and evaluate the condition of all TDOT ITS assets, including: CCTV, DMS, RWIS, WIM and related equipment.
  • Review of fiber test results and other fiber documentation submitted by the contractor to determine if the fiber is performing within specifications.
  • Inspects and monitors assigned field work activities on construction projects for conformance with plans, specifications, and other contract documents
  • Coordinates work and inspections with contractor’s representative, client personnel and other stakeholders.
  • Advises contractor of non-conforming work or other violations of the contract requirements. Works with the contractor to identify and implement appropriate corrective action.
  • Verifies that highways work zones and traffic control setups conform to contract requirements.
  • Prepares and reviews daily inspector reports for preparation of entries into project diaries and is able to properly document materials and test reports for materials.
  • Assists in contractor’s evaluations.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Knowledge of construction techniques, design , TDOT Specifications and documents. Familiarity with standard operations, policies and procedures of a firm, preferably within the A/E industry. Ability to learn on the job through observation of others and asking questions.
  • Familiarity with or the ability to learn how to use tools and equipment such as, but not limited to, air meter, slump cone, transit, level, and tape measure. Ability to use a computer for keying information and reporting when applicable.
  • Ability to demonstrate good interpersonal skills. Ability to work independently. Ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented, as well as communicate information and ideas in speaking and writing. Knowledge of the structure and content of the English language including the meaning and spelling of words, rules of composition, and grammar.



Job Requirements:
  • High school diploma (GED)
  • Must possess a Valid Driver’s license
  • Physical demands: Frequently required to sit and use hands to operate, handle or feel objects, tools, or equipment. Ability to talk, see and hear, and reach with hands and arms, walk, stand, or stoop. Frequently required to lift or move up to 25 lbs and occasionally over 25 lbs. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions.
  • Work Environment: Field – outdoors; exposed to environmental elements to include humidity, dust, noise, various temperatures; work in various high traffic areas.
  • Willingness to work Overtime or for limited night time construction as needed and overnight travel.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience on TDOT or municipal ITS / ATMS projects
  • Licenses/Registrations/Certifications: TDOT CEI Certifications are a plus. May be required to participate in certification and training courses post-hire as required by OSHA, TDOT , or client-specific requirements. Such certifications could include concrete, asphalt certifications, erosion control, and safety training.
  • Level 1 and preferably Level 2 of the state's Erosion Prevention and Sediment Control (EPSC) Training Program.
  • Use of personal protective equipment required and provided by firm.
  • Ability to read and interpret roadway, structure and bridge plans and specifications; apply mathematical formulas and engineering principles to determine minor adjustments to construction plans; maintain detailed records; perform required materials testing and communicate effectively with the agency and contractor personnel and the general public.
  • Working knowledge of the TDOT and Federal environmental, safety, and Equal Employment Opportunity guidelines and regulations
  • Excellent written and oral communications
  • Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to clients, and other employees of the organization.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • OSHA 10-Hour Construction Safety Training, Radiation Safety/Nuclear Gauge / Hazmat Training, TDOT Concrete Field Testing, TDOT Soils & Aggregate, and TDOT Hot Mix Asphalt Roadway Certifications
  • Knowledge of Fiber optic cabling design, installation, termination, and testing procedures.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of ITS industry standards
  • Knowledge of network design and implementation
  • Transportation Technology experience is preferred with experience in the following technologies/products: CCTV, VMS/DMS, Highway Advisory Radio, weather sensors (RWIS/ESS), (RDS) Radar detection systems, and (DAS) Distributed antenna systems.

Salary : $55,600 - $70,400
