Resource Recovery Worker
Full-time Monday-Thursday and Saturday
We have an immediate need for a Resource Recovery Worker at the Ben Lomond Transfer Station Recycling Center. The Resource Recovery Worker is responsible for physical aspects of the drive through recycling facilities, including the use of forklifts and balers to maintain the safe and orderly processing of recycling materials.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Orderly processing of recycling materials; direct the public in the correct recycling procedures and bins.
- Provide California Redemption Value (CRV) scrip payments to customers redeeming beverage containers.
- Safe operation of a forklift to empty recycling bins and load trucks.
- Safe operation of balers to compact cardboard, plastics and aluminum cans.
- Accumulate materials, communicate with vendors, prepare paperwork and load shipments.
- Maintain recycling areas to keep them clean and debris-free.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
- Hight school diploma or equivalent helpful plus one year of work experience helpful.
Must have excellent communication skills to interact with, support and educate diverse individuals including customers, staff, vendors and other stakeholders.
- Ability to work independently and with supervision; flexible attitude in working with the public in a sometimes heavy traffic environment.
- Must be willing to work outdoors.
- Must be able to lift 50 pounds regularly, and up to 75 pounds at times. Work in a fast paced environment, working with customers and traffic and be able to move safely and provide a high degree of customer service.
- Requisite experience, training and certification for the safe operation of a forklift. Training and certification will be provided.
- Bilingual Spanish/English a plus.
Special Conditions of Employment
- Selected candidate will be required to pass a criminal history background check.
- Must possess a valid license to drive in the State of California and have a clean DMV.
- Ability to perform essential physical job functions typically requiring bending, kneeling, squatting, sitting, standing for long periods of time, walking, handling objects, pushing/pulling, reaching above shoulder level, and using fine finger movements with manual dexterity. Must adhere to safety standards and wear appropriate equipment to include safety shoes, gloves, and other personal protective equipment as required.
