What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Programming position at Grounded Strategies?
The Director of Programming (DP) is a critical part of the leadership team at Grounded Strategies. They are the conduit between on-the-ground programmatic work and our overal strategy for mission impact. The DP works closely with the Executive Director to manage the capacity, tools, personnel and resources needed to execute the day-to-day operations of Grounded programs.
Strategic Partnerships
- Oversee all strategic partnerships across all program areas.
- Manage assigned organizational strategic partnerships and special initiatives
- Attend relevant partnership meetings to connect with key stakeholders locally and nationally.
Program Area Oversight
- Oversee the quality and success of all aspects of program operations, management, relationships, curriculum development, staff and volunteer training, and supervision.
- Monitor all program budgets and oversee grant and contract compliances.
- Keep Project Managers and Project Specialists accountable for accomplishing quarterly progress toward program/project KPI goals.
- Develop strategic long-term program expansion goals and budgets with Executive Director.
- Work closely with Director of Operations and Chief Financial Officer to ensure program activities are aligned with organizational operational standards and financial guidlines.
Thought Leadership
- As a member of the Senior Staff team, help to deliberate and build consensus amongst organizational leaders around important issues as they arise.
- Represent the organization at conferences and other public events; leading activities, speaking roles, and training locally and nationally.
- Publish blogs, articles, and/or reports on Grounded’s work for peer review and distribution throughout our existing network and beyond.
Supervisorship
- Directly supervise project managers and project specialists on an ongoing basis, including:
- Monitoring workload, staff capacity, and the alignment of the two.
- Helping Junior staff to set professional development goals and to create strategies for success.
- Checking in regularly on interoffice concerns, and/or personal and HR concerns.
- Conducting annual reviews for assigned staff.
- Discover ways to enhance efficiency and productivity of procedures and people
- Apply change, risk, and resource management principles when needed
General Responsibilities
- Read reports prepared by managers to determine progress and issues
- Ensure program operations and activities adhere to legal guidelines and internal policies
- Develop strategic long-term program expansion goals and budgets with Executive Director
- Take on a leadership role in communicating and working with one of the Board committees
- Attend and plan professional development seminars as requested
- Chair and/or participate in Grounded internal committees.
Requirements
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must have a Bachelor degree (BA, BS, etc.) in a related field, MA degree preferred
- At least 5 years of working experience in a similar role
- Proven experience in a managerial position
- Thorough understanding of project/program management techniques and methods
- Outstanding experience with data analysis, reporting, and budgeting
- Business acumen with a strategic ability
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- An analytical mindset with great problem-solving abilities
- Excellent communication skills
- Work well with people in various communities, institutional and governmental organizations
- Ability to motivate, develop and direct people as they work
- Cultural competency to work with individuals from diverse backgrounds
- A past history of developing funded relationships with nonprofits and contractors
- Work in a team environment with minimal supervision
- Experience in meeting facilitation, and/or community relations
- Ability to work independently, be flexible, and manage multiple priorities
- Work well in a team-oriented environment and maintain harmonious relationships
- Proficient computer skills, especially using Microsoft Suite and Google Suite, and preferably, AdobeCloud.
- Detail-oriented with excellent communication, organizational, interpersonal and writing skills
- Experience leading public presentations, training and speaking engagements

Physical Requirements & Work Environment:
- Must be able to drive a motor vehicle.
- Must be able to lift 30 pounds.

Salary & Schedule
$57,500 annually - not negotiable. Commensurate with experience and based on the organization’s financial health. Exempt position. The position is expected to work at least 40 hours weekly. Candidate must be open to working a flexible schedule, including some evenings and weekends.
