The Payroll Administrator performs payroll and other accounting-related functions, including payroll and commissions processing, payroll tax compliance, automated timekeeping systems and payroll reporting in a multi-site, multi-state, high-volume environment. S/he assists and supports the accounting team with financial, clerical, and administrative services. Additionally, the Payroll Administrator provides excellent customer service to managers and associates and is well versed in payroll compliance, taxes and reporting.
Duties and responsibilities
- Perform payroll-related functions including but not limited to payroll processing, audits and maintenance
- Assist branches to maintain time and attendance
- Process bi-weekly payroll for multi-frequency Managed Services clients as scheduled
- Handle all payroll liens, garnishments, and child support and through 3rd party
- Prepares off-cycle payrolls and manual checks as necessary
- Analyze commissions for field sales representatives
- Provide and balance the general ledger to accounting for all payrolls
- Assist with payroll transfers and employee status changes as needed
- Assist with employment payroll verifications as needed through 3rd party
- Reconcile all payroll and related accounts and activities
- Prepare all reports for management and vendor audit as required
- Communicates with Human Resources on all employee pay/benefit issues
- Maintain discretion and professionalism with team members and clients
- Assist with new client implementations and special projects as requested
- Process and file certified payroll manually and with 3rd party software
- Other duties as assigned
- Associate degree (A.A.) or equivalent, three to five years related payroll and accounting experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience
- FPC/CPP Certification preferred
- Experience with large corporate payroll processing that includes exposure to benefits and 401(k)
- Knowledge of multi-state payroll tax laws
- Well versed in DOL laws and wage/hour compliance
- In-depth knowledge of Microsoft Excel including pivot tables/v-lookup functions
- Knowledge with Workday payroll system a plus
- Highly adaptable to different software/technology
- Strong attention to detail, strong analytic skills, high level of accuracy a must
- Understands priorities and what is most important to both internal and external customers
- Ability to analyze and resolve problems through effective customer service interface and communication (must be able to effectively communicate via phone, email etc.)
- Ability to deal effectively with a diversity of individuals at all organizational levels
- Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously
- File documents/good record keeping – both manually and electronically
- Show initiative and follow-up on issues until they are resolved
- Deadline driven position – must be able to work OT
- Must be able to work in fast paced environment
- Team oriented
- Must be able to work independently with minimal direction Must be comfortable with reporting to management on assignments on a regular basis
