Reports to:  Director of Government Affairs and Chief of Staff
 

Department:  Government Affairs and Operations
 

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt 


 

COMPANY SUMMARY:
 As the leading trade association representing producers and supporters of biofuels, we work every day to bring consumers better choices at the fuel pump, grow America's economy, and lower the carbon footprint for America’s transportation sector. 
 

POSITION SUMMARY:
 Growth Energy seeks an intern to serve in the Washington, DC office from May 26, 2026, through July 31, 2026. This internship provides undergraduate students with hands-on exposure to the federal policymaking process and the operations of a national trade association. The intern supports the Government Affairs and Operations teams.
 

Government Affairs Principal Duties 
 

  • Conduct research and analysis on federal legislation, regulations, and policy developments impacting renewable fuels and agriculture;
     
  • Track Congressional activity, hearings, and briefings relevant to Growth Energy’s policy priorities;
     
  • Assist with the preparation of policy memos, briefing materials, issue summaries, and presentations;
     
  • Attend meetings, briefings, and events and prepare written summaries for staff; and
     
  • Provide general support to the Government Affairs team on advocacy-related projects and initiatives.
     

Operations Principal Duties
 

  • Administrative support and office management duties as assigned;
     
  • Organize files, assist with scheduling meetings, track deliverables;
     
  • Support internal meeting preparation. 

 

POSITION SPECIFICATIONS
 

Training/Education
 

  • Current undergraduate student who has completed at least their sophomore year;
     
  • Major or coursework in agriculture, public policy, political science, economics, energy, environmental studies, or a related field preferred; and
     
  • Demonstrated interest in renewable fuels, agriculture, and government relations.
     

Essential Skills & Knowledge
 

  • Strong research, writing, and analytical skills;
     
  • Basic understanding of the federal legislative and regulatory process;
     
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office, including Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook;
     
  • Ability to communicate clearly and professionally in written and verbal formats.

  • Ability to manage multiple assignments and meet deadlines with attention to detail;

HOURLY RATE AND SCHEDULE
 Interns will be based at our Washington, DC office, working on-site three days per week with the option to telework on Mondays and Fridays. Growth Energy interns will be paid an hourly rate of $20.00 per hour and are responsible for their own housing.
 
 

Growth Energy employees are industrious, self-motivated, and able to work well independently as well as with all levels of professionals in pursuit of a final goal. The fast-paced nature of Growth Energy requires employees to be able to multi-task and prioritize work to meet deadlines, as well as work varied extended hours during organization events, as business needs dictate.  Employees are expected to maintain regular and punctual attendance. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Sedentary work that primarily involves remaining in a stationary position, often standing, or sitting for prolonged periods. May include moving objects up to 20 pounds.
