The Greater Vallejo Recreation District is a Special Service District that has been serving area residents for over sixty years. As a Special Service District, GVRD operates as a separate government agency from the City of Vallejo. GVRD manages 407 acres of public park space including 20 neighborhood parks, 10 community parks, 6 special purpose parks, and Olympic-size swimming pool and 4 community centers. GVRD maintains over 1,000 acres of public land.
GVRD is governed by a five-member Board of Directors. With 30 plus full time and approximately 155 part-time and seasonal employees, GVRD operates on a 2022-2023 fiscal year budget of $12.9 million for general fund operations and Measure K funding amounting to $2.2 million. The Measure K funding is being utilized to purchase necessary equipment, improve parks, facilities
Job Definition
Generally, to perform a wide variety of clerical duties in support of assigned functions; to provide information and assistance to the general public; and to provide clerical support to the staff.
Supervision Received and Exercised
Receives direction from the Recreation Supervisor and/or Recreation Superintendent.
Functions:
- Answer the telephone and assist the general public.
- Coordinate park reservation activities.
- Help at the front counter; collect cash and issue receipts.
- Sort and distribute incoming mail; prepare outgoing mail and special packages.
- Retrieve and file information; maintain and update filing system utilizing a computer filing system.
- Type a variety of letters, memos, reports as assigned.
- Assist in the compilation of reports including data entry functions.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Knowledge of:
Microsoft Word and Excel; English usage, spelling grammar and punctuation.
Ability to:
Learn and interpret District policies and procedures.
Perform routine mathematical calculations.
Communicate clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.
Learn and implement PEAK software for Parks and Recreation Departments
Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
Experience:
One year of general clerical experience which included use of computer systems.
License or Certificate:
Possession of valid California Class C Driver’s License.
Physical Conditions:
Functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for light lifting, stooping, bending, kneeling, and sitting for prolonged periods of time.
