Description:
Hachette Book Group is seeking an associate production editor to support its Orbit and Redhook imprints. The ideal candidate is self-motivated and self-directed and capable of working with minimal oversight. The associate production editor will be a creative problem solver capable of managing a brisk workload with flexibility and an ability to roll with the punches. This position offers a terrific opportunity to help produce some of the most exciting and award-winning genre fiction in the market.
Responsibilities:
- Manages a workload mix of secondary formats, co-publications with our UK sister imprint, and a limited number of original manuscripts
- Manages all reprint corrections
- Performs ebook quality review
- Liaises with Editorial, Design, and Digital and Print Production regarding production schedules
- Applies for Cataloging-in-Publication data from the Library of Congress
- Completes electronic manuscript preparation, including style coding
- Hires freelance copyeditors and proofreaders
- Copyedits and proofreads jacket and cover materials from original copy through final proof
- Reviews copyediting, working in Microsoft Word to reconcile copyediting and author markup, and reviews all stages of manuscripts, text proofs, and electronic blues
Requirements:
- 2-4 years relevant experience in trade publishing, preferably in a production editorial capacity
- Effective organizational skills and proven ability to work well under pressure with tight deadlines
- Proven copyediting and proofreading skills and a familiarity with electronic workflow
- Working knowledge of The Chicago Manual of Style
- Strong computer/MS Word skills, proficiency with Track Changes a must
- Knowledge of XML styling a plus
- This is a full-time on-site position. Applicants must be able to travel to the NYC office daily.
