What are the responsibilities and job description for the Water Production Operator position at Haltom City?
Monitors and maintains the Haltom City water system and related equipment; conducts water sampling; provides general maintenance assistance to other City departments; and perform other related duties as assigned. The hours for this position are Thursday, Friday and Saturday night from 6:00 pm until 6:00 am as well as every other Wednesday from 6:00 pm until 6:00 am; working 36 hours week and 48 hours the next week.
Examples of Duties:
- Assists in ensuring the safety, security, quality, and pressure of the City's water supply.
- Inspects, maintains, repairs, and/or cleans water production facilities, water storage tanks, pumps, lift stations, flow vaults, valves, and other related water equipment.
- Monitors SCADA system readings pertaining to water tank levels and pump/intruder alarms.
- Performs adjustments to water flow, pressure, and/or pumps as necessary.
- Flushes dead end water mains monthly in accordance with regulatory requirements.
- Maintains pumping station and elevated storage tank grounds; mows grass, removes weeds, trims trees, and disposes of debris.
- Provides after hours customer assistance; turns on water services and performs emergency shut-off's; sets water meters; performs leak checks.
- Conducts water sampling and obtains bacteriological and chlorine residual samples; maintains compliance with TCEQ guidelines; interprets test results.
- Prepares monthly water consumption summaries and/or other departmental records and reports.
- Assists the Fire, Police, Building Maintenance, and other City departments with general maintenance duties as required.
- Performs other duties as assigned or required.
Typical Qualifications:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Two years' experience as a water distribution operator
- Possession of a Class C Water Distribution License
- Must possess or obtain prior to starting, a valid Texas Driver's License
