Overview
The Human Services career cluster prepares learners for postsecondary credentials and careers in occupations that support the everyday functioning of society and individual well-being, including careers in social work, counseling, dietetics and nutrition, athletic training, cosmetology, aesthetics, and barbering.
All courses in the Cosmetology program of study have been revised to address and prepare students for postsecondary and industry standards. Cosmetology is designed to prepare students for careers in cosmetology by developing an understanding of efficient and safe work practices, salon business concepts and operations, hair techniques and chemical services, facial and skin care procedures and state board theoretical practical application. Laboratory facilities and experiences simulate those found in the cosmetology industry.
Sequoyah High School is a 9-12 choice school located in Soddy Daisy, TN. Our school is focused on providing students with the skills, training, and industry certifications necessary to leave high school prepared to enter the workforce and/or post-secondary education. At Sequoyah, students from across Hamilton County can choose to attend and participate in a specific program of study.

Responsibilities
Plan, deliver and assess effective instruction that is tightly aligned with State standards.
- Designs lessons based on best practices with clear learning targets and measurable goals aligned with State standards and/or unit outcomes. Frequently plans collaboratively with colleagues.
- Conveys high expectations while using multiple effective strategies, materials, and classroom practices that involve and motivate students while differentiating instruction to meet students’ needs.
- Uses colleagues and own self-reflection on instructional practice to continually improve instruction.
Classroom Management & Relationships:
- Fosters a well-structured and engaging learning environment by utilizing effective classroom procedures and routines while showing caring, respect, and fairness for all students.
Family & Community:
- Consistently develops strong relationships with students’ families while diligently informing parents of expectations, positive news, and/or concerns about their children.
- Provides opportunities for parents to be involved in their children’s learning.
Professional Responsibilities:
- Actively seeks out opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and other stakeholders in order to improve teaching & learning.
- Reflects on own instruction and leadership while contributing ideas, expertise, and time to the mission and goals of the school.
Qualifications
Knowledge/Education/Experience:
- Minimum Education Requirements: High School diploma and completion of cosmetology instructor.
- Minimum Occupational Work Experience: Five years of full time work experience out of the past eight years.

- Industry Certification: Tennessee Cosmetology Instructor license
