TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:  10 months

 

GENERAL DESCRIPTION

 

To improve student’s success in reading by implementing district approved curriculum, documenting teaching and student progress/activities/outcomes; developing lesson plans; modeling the necessary skills to perform assignments; providing a safe and positive learning environment; and providing feedback to students, parents and administration regarding student progress, expectations and goals.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS       

  1. Must possess or be eligible for a Virginia teaching license with endorsement(s) in the required content area and/or grade  level.
  2. At least three (3) years’ prior, successful teaching experience in the desired content area and/or grade level is preferred. 

 

ESSENTIAL SKILLS, DUTIES AND ABILITIESEssential Job Functions:

  1. Assists other teachers for the purpose of implementing district reading curriculum, strategies and routines.
  2. Collaborates with school personnel and parents for the purpose of improving the quality of student outcomes, developing solutions and planning curriculum.
  3. Collects, analyzes, and prepares data for the purpose of interpretation and reporting to administration, parents, and the district.
  4. Demonstrates methods required to perform assignments for the purpose of providing an effective district reading program and addressing the needs to students.
  5. Develops and coordinates reading programs cooperatively with classroom teachers for the purpose of supporting teachers and ensuring student success.
  6. Evaluates students’ abilities in reading skills for the purpose of assisting in the diagnosis of learning disorders, developing remediation plans, and/or evaluating student progress.
  7. Facilitates study groups and district in-services (e.g. literacy team meetings, workshops, etc.) for the purpose of providing staff development and support to district staff.
  8. Instructs students (e.g. individually, group sessions, etc.) for the purpose of improving their success in reading and assessing reading concepts and proficiencies through a defined course of study.
  9. Maintains confidentiality of all information for the purpose of protection of students, staff, parents, and the district.
  10. Manages student behavior for the purpose of providing a safe and an optimal learning environment.
  11. Mentors classroom teachers and support staff for the purpose of supporting staff in the instructional process.
  12. Monitors student progress for the purpose of providing student feedback on a regular basis to students, teachers, and parents, and determining interventions for those students who are diagnosed as “at risk” readers.
  13. Participates in various meetings for the purpose of receiving and/or providing information.
  14. Prepares teaching materials and related reports (e.g. grades, attendance, anecdotal records, etc.) for the purpose of implementing lesson plans and documenting student progress.
  15. Provides assistance in selecting and administering valid, reliable reading assessments and screening instruments for the purpose of providing an effective school program to increase the reading skills of students.

This job operates in a professional, school environment. This role routinely uses standard equipment such as computers, phones, photocopiers, filing cabinets and fax machines.
