What are the responsibilities and job description for the ASSISTANT DIRECTOR position at Hamilton Madison House?
Under the sponsorship of Hamilton Madison House, the City Hall Older Adult Center ("CHOAC") is one of the largest older adult centers in New York City, providing nutritious meals and vital services and activities to older adults who come from many different areas of NYC. CHOAC is a model for providing high quality, high volume, culturally and linguistically appropriate services and programs and has a high public profile and visibility. The Assistant Director plays an integral role in assisting the Director in the daily operations of the program. This position reports to the Director of CHOAC.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s or advanced degree in social work, gerontology, psychology, or other human service areas or at least 3 years of experience in social services; Master in social work preferred.
- Previous supervisory experience preferred.
- Knowledge of the social welfare system and the target population preferred.
- Must be a team player. Work well with people and seniors in particular. Warm personality and energetic; sensitivity to and understanding of the needs of the elderly. Prior experience working with older adults desirable.
- Bilingual English/Asian Language required.
- Experience with peer place and stars system a plus.
- Highly organized and detail oriented; able to plan, manage and successfully complete multiple concurrent projects with deadlines.
- Ability to develop collaborative relationships with staff, community groups and volunteers.
- Food Protection Certificate a plus.
Responsibilities:
- Assist the Director with daily program operations.
- Assist the Director in managing the physical facility of the Center and act as the liaison to vendors, contractors, and government agencies including DFTA, DOHMH, DCAS and HPD.
- Provide social services, entitlement counseling and assistance, information and referral to achieve contract goal.
- Oversee the daily operation of kitchen and meal service program. Supervise food service staff and custodial staff.
- Working with food service staff and director in menu preparation.
- Coordinate with the Center’s satellites.
- Coordinate and supervise the Center’s Title V program, interns and SYEP students.
- Represent the Center and/or the Director by attending various community meetings or events as required.
- Serve as the Acting Director of the Center during the absence of the Director.
- Attend team meetings and professional trainings.
Compensation: $50K to $58K
Hours: 8:30AM to 4:30PM, Monday to Friday, 35 hours per week
