What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2nd Grade Homeroom Teacher position at Hammond School?
Hammond Lower School seeks a dynamic, caring, and innovative individual committed to teaching the whole child. We are looking for an experienced teacher who is intellectually curious and committed to a student-centered learning environment. This full-time position is a homeroom teaching role that includes teaching across the content areas, building a positive, joyful homeroom community, and maintaining strong communication with parents. Candidates of interest should be instructional leaders, well-organized, and able to communicate effectively with students, teachers, parents, and administrators. The ideal candidate will possess classroom experience at the elementary level (K-4th); however, candidates with related experiences, strong credentials, and outstanding references will be considered.
We look for teachers who are enthusiastic about current teaching methodologies, supportive of divergent learners, able to integrate project-based and design-centered projects, and are familiar with developmentally aligned models of teaching and learning. We want educators who will support the social and emotional growth of young learners. All candidates must demonstrate a solid understanding of literacy development and best practices in teaching and learning. Experiences with one-to-one programs, Apple technologies, design-based learning, Handwriting Without Tears, and Open Court Phonics are a plus.
Required: Bachelor's degree or higher in Elementary Education and/or related field. Graduate work preferred.
Reporting: Prekindergarten through 4th grade Homeroom teachers report to the Head of Lower School.
