We provide residential undergraduate education to nearly 600 students. The department of outdoor programs, recreation, and athletics (OPRA) provides the campus and local community with a comprehensive offering of programs and facility access in support of a healthy lifestyle and overall well-being. DESCRIPTION OF RESPONSIBILITIES:
The instructor and facility manager is a full time, 12-month professional staff member, reporting to the senior director of student affairs - outdoor programs, recreation and athletics (OPRA). This position is responsible for contributing to the daily operations of recreation and aquatic programming and facility operations. Specifically, this position is expected to instruct and/or coach a variety of recreation, fitness, aquatic, or athletic offerings based on their expertise and demand. Examples of potential offerings include but are not limited to: yoga, weight training, strength and conditioning, circuit training, instructional swimming, or coaching soccer, basketball, track and field, or volleyball. They will evaluate programs and operational procedures and propose development plans for the recreation, fitness, and aquatic programs to grow and thrive over time based on industry best practices. Additionally, this person is contributing to the daily operations at the Robert Crown Center (RCC) by hiring and supervising student staff positions for the RCC front desk, assigning ongoing tasks, and providing mentorship. In support of the facility operations, this position will be expected to work an average of 2-3 evenings per week.
The instructor and facility manager will support pool operations and our rental partners using our facilities. This includes maintaining appropriate chemistry levels for safe aquatic programming in the pool, vacuuming the pool, and maintaining an organized and professional environment on the pool deck. The person in this position will also maintain an appropriate inventory of supplies essential for the upkeep of the pools (chlorine, CO2, etc.) and complete town board of health inspections as necessary. In support of the pool operations, the instructor and facility manager will be responsible for hiring and training lifeguards and staffing all shifts to support open swim hours and/or programming. This position is also a point of contact for the community partners who rent the pool for facilitating instructional swim lessons and team practices. They will be expected to provide respectful and friendly customer service and address concerns as needed.
The instructor and facility manager is a student development practitioner who cares deeply about forming strong relationships and engaging in meaningful experiences with students, open to new and challenging experiences directed towards professional growth. Under the leadership and direction of the senior director, the instructor and facility manager will serve all students, while paying close attention to the varying needs of students from different cultural backgrounds and identities that may require focused support and considerations in the health and wellness capacities. This staff member must have experience in program planning and management and feel comfortable working in an evolving and fast-paced organizational framework with shifting responsibilities.
As a member of the division of student affairs, this position contributes to campus-wide educational initiatives and divisional-wide projects, including but not limited to ENGAGE Day of Learning, Move-In and New and Transfer Student Orientation, Community Orientation, and Community Education Day that advances the College's commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion and a vibrant, welcoming and safe community.
Participates as a committed member of the student affairs team in college and divisional committee work, projects, meetings, retreats and overall community development: assists in the coordination and facilitation of academic courses, co-curricular activities and services for students. Availability to work evenings and weekends is required.
REQUIRED SKILLS:
* Demonstrated experience instructing recreation, fitness, or aquatic programs. Specifically, must be qualified to instruct or coach a minimum of three of the following program areas upon hire:
* Demonstrated knowledge of recreation and aquatic programs in higher education.
* Current First Aid/CPR/AED or ability to obtain within one month of hire.
* Current Lifeguard certification or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
* Current Certified Pool Operator or ability to obtain within 3 months of hire.
* Professional oral and written communication skills.
* Current Driver's License with a clean driving history in order to be approved to operate campus vehicles.
* Demonstrated experience working with Microsoft Windows, specifically Excel, Word, and PowerPoint.
* Passionate about working in an organization that values and promotes diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism.
* Excellent written and verbal communication skills, and ability to present to diverse audiences, specifically racially, ethnically, and socioeconomically diverse communities.

Preferred
* Bachelor's degree in recreation, kinesiology, or related field
* Experience supervising and developing college student staff and young professionals.
* Experience working in a collegiate recreation or aquatic center environment.
* Lifeguard Management Certification
* Active related memberships with associations including but not limited to NIRSA, ACE, SFIA, IHRSA, and AFAA.
REQUIRED CERTIFICATION, EDUCATION, AND EXPERIENCE:
* Two-year college degree or equivalent
* Two years' of job-related experience
Alternatives to formal education and paid work experience may be considered as equivalent qualifications to include military service/training, volunteering, activism, and other non-traditional programs and experiences related to the position.
