General Statement of Job
This position will be responsible for the technical tasks necessary for day-to-day operations. The major responsibilities for this job include preparing cases and/or documents, conducting research regarding a case, performing technical duties, preparing documentation that results from hearings, conducting monetary transactions and providing services to visitors and citizens. Probate Court Clerks may be assigned to a specific area of work within the office, such as but not limited to Marriage Applications. SC Code § 14-23-1100 (2024)
Essential Tasks for day-to-day operations:
- Upholding all court files and records to ensure they stay up-to-date and accessible.
- Answering the phone to take messages and transfer calls to the applicable colleague.
- Assisting the public with any questions or concerns.
- Assisting in all office management and administrative processes.
- Creating calendars of cases to be heard by the Judge of Probate.
- Collecting court fees and maintaining records of amounts collected.
- Performing basic bookkeeping tasks.
Qualifications
Court Clerk Qualifications: • High school diploma or equivalent qualification. • A minimum of 2 years’ experience in a similar role. • Superior organizational and multitasking abilities. • Basic knowledge of the computer, word, and windows. • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills. • Probate court experience is preferred but not necessary.
