Job Duties/Scope Of Work
JOB SUMMARY:
The Environmental Scientist for the Environmental Monitoring Program will support environmental sample plan development, rationale, and Data Quality Objectives (DQO), sample scheduling, collection coordination, and processing, including sample authorization, chains of custody and record keeping. The position will also support analytical data evaluation, data management, and formal reporting, including composition of results into reports released for public information.
Essential job functions of this position also include, but are not limited to:
- Evaluating analytical data results and final packages against historical data for trending, program and contract requirements, track sample processing, forecast monthly costs based on sample delivery to laboratories, and assist in validation of invoices.
- Coordinate, review, and be a lead contributing author to numerous Hanford Site environmental plans, schedules, and reports.
- Reviewing regulatory requirements and changes while ensuring program compliance and making recommendations on sampling changes.
- Provide subject matter expertise, guidance, and analysis on environmental sample collection locations. Facilitate communication with customers and regulatory agencies.
- Ensure environmental sampling schematic meets regulatory requirements and is scientifically sound.
- Ensure technical quality and completeness of all procedures and reports associated with the Environmental Monitoring Program.
- Lead and participate in program management assessments, procedure development and revision, hazard analysis, and subcontractor oversight.
- Ensure technical excellence and completeness in all environmental program elements and deliverables.
- Develop and maintain environmental processes, create and maintain procedures, and provide training, as required.
- Ensure full implementation of environmental, safety, and health requirements across all environmental activities.
- Participate in and provide leadership to the ISMS, QA, and Voluntary Protection Program. Communicate with management and staff on a regular basis.
- Assist with coordination of the environmental sample collection field crew, scheduling daily work assignments for the environmental radiological control staff and other sample collection personnel.
- Arranging timely collection of routine and special samples and measurements.
Basic Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in an Environmental field plus 2 years' experience in Environmental Sample Collection and data evaluation.
- Demonstrated proficiency on effective oral and written communication.
- Experience in environmental sciences that may include environmental monitoring, toxicology and environmental pollutants, collecting and evaluating environmental data.
- Knowledge of environmental sampling collection methods, techniques and log keeping.
- Must be proficient with Microsoft Office and Access.
Desired Qualifications
* Bachelor's degree in an Environmental field plus 7 years' experience in Environmental Sample Collection and data evaluation.
- Experience overseeing or collecting multi-media environmental samples, experience reviewing analytical laboratory data packages, and environmental data management.
- Knowledge of environmental monitoring sample programs, analytical methods, collection of multi-media environmental samples, reviewing environmental data and composing results in reports released to the public.
- Working experience in environmental sampling collection methods, techniques and log keeping.
- Knowledge of Equis TM sample management software, Collect TM software and chain of custody management.

Grade 17: $94,650 - $119,250
Grade 18: $104,175 - $131,425
