SUBSTANCE USE RESIDENTIAL COUNSELOR - MALE UNIT JOB DESCRIPTION
EMPLOYEE: REPORTS TO: Clinical Operations Director

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES: Under general supervision, provides therapy services to residential residents and documents all services rendered according to MS Department of Mental Health Standards of Operations.
JOB SPECIFICATIONS
1. Utilizes intake assessment information to evaluate person-centered needs and develop individual service plans with personal goals, objectives, and interventions for each resident.
2. Provides individual, family, group, crisis counseling, and/or psychoeducational services to residents and their families/significant others.
3. Participates in daily interdisciplinary treatment team and periodic staffing meetings to inform team discussion and treatment recommendations to increase positive resident outcomes.
4. Serves as liaison with a case manager to facilitate and ensure communication, linkage, and continuity of care between residents and physicians, other organizational components, community resources, and service providers.
5. Demonstrates safety measures that prevent employee/resident accidents.
6. Maintain progress reports, treatment plans, and other data pertinent to making clinical recommendations for resident care and periodic staffing.
7. Assists with daily duties in coordinated communication with Clinical Technicians as needed, including but not limited to changing room assignments, delivering resident mail, providing recreational activities, observing medication self-administration, and intervening anywhere on campus where a resident in need of behavioral modification or assistance.
8. Intervene when residents’ behavior is inappropriate and/or residents appear in distress.
9. Participate in in-service and external training programs as are made available and necessary to maintain requisite licensure and/or credentials.
10. Recommend management changes that would improve the operations and efficiency of admissions.
11. Perform such duties as directed by the Clinical Operations Director, Assistant Executive Director, and/or Executive Director.
Requirements
Position Qualifications:
1. Master’s degree in an addiction, mental health-, or human services/behavioral health-related field and (1) a professional license or (2) hold a DMH credential as a Mental Health Therapist or Addiction Therapist. All employees hired on or after September 1, 2020, must meet this requirement.
2. One year of related work experience in alcohol and drug treatment.
3. Culturally competent in effective communication skills and counseling with residents.
4. Employees who self-identify as in recovery must have a minimum of one (1) year of sustained recovery.
5. CPR Certification (can be obtained during onboarding.)
6. CPI – Crisis Prevention Intervention Trained (can be obtained during onboarding)
