Job Summary:
Assist the Principal in leading and managing restorative practices throughout the school and directly with students; providing training with staff to implement restorative practices and shifting mindsets around discipline; developing student leadership groups to serve as peer mentors for restorative justice and restorative circles; responding to parent, student, stakeholder, and community concerns/questions; and developing a culture of using discipline as an opportunity to lead students in reflective, restorative and educational opportunities. Promote strong relations and partnerships among school, parents, students, community, and stakeholders.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Oversee a program of restorative practices building wide, creating capacity for all staff to engage in restorative conversations with students. Training staff around the purpose, reason, and approaches within a restorative practice mindset. Building systems for student led restorative justice and restorative practices.
Oversee student discipline and support, including investigating incidents; administering appropriate consequences; creating and maintaining discipline records; and most of all implementing restorative approaches with students, involving and conferring with students, parents, teachers, counselors, community members, and law enforcement officers/officials.
Serve as a member of multiple Professional Learning Communities and committees to support schoolwide efforts focused on providing the best possible culture and instruction for students. Work with the Student Success Centers and/or Community Partners who are also focused on restorative practices with students.
Collaborate with parents, students, stakeholders, and community organizations to enhance restorative practices at the school and promote positive public relations. Encourage school/parent/student/community partnerships in providing for the educational needs of the student.
Participate in the coordination, implementation, and supervision of co-curricular activities.
Assist in developing and administering campus control, security, and supervision practices.
Supervise students in classrooms, hallways, outdoors, on/off the bus, parking lot, and/or during extra-curricular activities.
Actively participate in professional organizations, committees, and professional development opportunities.
Performs other related tasks as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
A minimum of three years of educational experience as a teacher or special service provider.
Advanced oral and written communication, English language, interpersonal relations, customer service, public relations, critical thinking, problem solving, and organizational.
Intermediate supervisory/management skills.
Basic math and accounting skills.
Strong personal computer, keyboarding, and word processing skills.
Ability to manage confidentiality in all aspects of job.
Ability to diffuse and manage volatile and stressful situations.
Ability to manage multiple tasks with frequent interruptions and multiple priorities.
Ability to promote and follow Board of Education, Superintendent, building, and department policies and procedures.
Ability to communicate, interact, and work effectively and cooperatively with people from diverse ethnic and educational backgrounds.
Ability to recognize the importance of safety in the workplace, follow safety rules, practice safe work habits, utilize appropriate safety equipment, and report unsafe conditions to the appropriate administrator.
Certification/License:
Valid Colorado Teacher’s License or Special Service Provider license.
Possess or be eligible for a Colorado Principal License preferred.
Criminal background check and District fingerprinting required.
Education:
Bachelor's Degree from an accredited college or university.
