We’re looking for a bold, visionary leader to drive enterprise agility and operational excellence in partnership with our businesses and transformation office across Global Specialty at The Hartford. As AVP of Strategic Operational Excellence, you’ll report directly to the COO and serve as the connective tissue between strategy, execution, and long-term value creation. You won’t just manage portfolios—you’ll shape how we deliver change, embed continuous improvement, and build a future-ready organization across people, process, data and technology. How You Will Lead Transformation: Vision & Strategic Leadership: • Champion enterprise-wide operational excellence by aligning business measurement, process optimization, and portfolio management with our strategy & goals. • Drive cohesion between strategic intent and execution, ensuring transparency, accountability, and measurable outcomes. • Culture builder and thought leader to COO, ensuring the right work, with the right teams and people, happen at the right time with relentless focus on data-driven and human-centered value creation. • Lead the charge in embedding a culture of continuous improvement, innovation and challenge of legacy mindsets, and enhanced performance accountability. Lean Portfolio Management: • Orchestrate portfolio planning, funding, and governance to ensure every investment aligns with strategic priorities. • Shape and drive multi-year product roadmaps and financial strategies across business and IT. • Govern prioritized investments through OKRs and KPIs, ensuring measurable impact and strategic alignment. Agile Execution & Flow Optimization: • Champion Agile and Lean execution by aligning senior leadership and ensuring clear understanding and visibility from strategy to delivery. • Optimize portfolio flow through Lean Governance and continuous improvement practices. • Establish operating routines and communication channels to align operational activities with strategic goals. Enterprise Collaboration & Capability Building: • Act as a strategic liaison and partner to the Transformation Office, aligning change initiatives with enterprise routines. • Drive the future state operating model, unlocking current and future dependencies, saying the hard things that move an organization forward and ensuring we guide leaders and operating routines toward new ways of thinking. • Partner with senior leaders to identify performance improvement opportunities and build organizational maturity. • Lead assessments and training initiatives to elevate enterprise agility and operational effectiveness. What You Will Bring: • 10 years of experience in transformation, risk, strategy, consulting, or organizational effectiveness. • Deep expertise in Agile, Lean, budgeting, organizational design and change management methodologies. • Proven ability to lead complex, cross-functional teams and enterprise-level change and influence without direct authority or control. • Exceptional communication, leadership, and stakeholder engagement skills with an affinity toward storytelling. • Strong business acumen and experience influencing executive leadership; grounded in people not process. • Systems thinking and operational design expertise with comfort thriving at 50,000-ft view and ease in dropping into details. Compensation The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford’s total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition.
