What are the responsibilities and job description for the Alternative Classroom Paraprofessional position at Hartford School District?
Hartford Memorial Middle School (a grade 6-8 school of approximately 300 students) is searching for an Alternative Classroom Paraprofessional to work in tandem with a Classroom Counselor to help provide behavioral, and academic support to a group of students with emotional disturbance who struggle to access traditional public school classroom spaces. Specifically, the person in this position will support students in hands-on learning experiences such as furniture building that will reinforce social-emotional learning, self-regulation, group participation, and explicit academic skill development. The academic skill portion will be designed and directed by a certified educator working in collaboration with the program. The program will consist of a Classroom Counselor and Behavioral Paraprofessional working in consultation with a licensed educator/special educator, the HSD Clinical Director, HMMSs Dean of Students, and HMMSs administrative team.
Services will be provided within the classroom milieus in various locations on the HMMS/HHS campus. While the majority of the work will be with a small group of students, there will be opportunity for one-to-one support and intervention.
