ASSISTANT STORE MANAGER JOB DESCRIPTION
The Assistant Store Manager position is responsible for the complete day-to-day operation of the store in the absence of the Store Manager. The successful candidate will be able to assist the Store Manager enhance customer satisfaction, meet sales and profitability goals, manage staff effectively, and ensure that the store is optimally stocked and merchandised while minimizing expenses. An Assistant Store Manager contributes to the growth and development of the management team and store associates. Assistant Store Manager responsibilities will include helping supervise store Associates and assisting the Store Managers with deposits.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (assist in all of the following):
SALES AND OPERATIONS
  • Assist the store manager in realizing or exceeding determined sales plans and target objectives
  • Help delegate daily workload among Associates to maintain outstanding store conditions and meet merchandising and visual presentation standards.
  • Review all store evaluations with the store management team and staff to identify opportunity areas and correct all issues with a sense of urgency.
  • Help train and develop store staff with goals for growth and success in their positions, provide ongoing performance feedback, and recognize accomplishments.
  • Aid in the coordination and overall supervision of staff to ensure sales performance goals are met and ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
  • Propose innovative ideas to increase market share and develop business strategies to raise our customer pool, expand store traffic and optimize profitability
  • Participate in associate evaluations per company standards to provide feedback for improvement, praise and recognition, and growth opportunities.
  • Review staffing strengths and opportunities with HR/Ops Directors before additions or terminations.
  • Report on buying trends, customer needs, profits, etc.
CUSTOMER SERVICE
  • Promote Customer Service as the #1 Priority. This must be accomplished daily through observing, monitoring, and coaching Associates' performance and interactions on the sales floor.
  • Use huddles, communication boards, and store meetings to communicate the store's performance and educate, engage, and motivate the team.
  • Drive customer satisfaction by ensuring that all customers are acknowledged, customer needs are met, and concerns are resolved quickly.
  • Document at least one (1) Observation per associate monthly and provide coaching to ensure service consistency to all customers.
INVENTORY
  • Assist in maintaining accurate inventory at all stages through on-hand integrity, daily receiving, and transfers, store communication, product mix and flow, and adhering to best practices, metrics, and the deadlines of Hatchet Hardware.
  • Utilize available inventory reports to maintain appropriate stock levels and maximize inventory accuracy.
COACHING AND TRAINING
  • Work on your professional development through leadership training opportunities (self-directed learning, local business events, Ace learning, industry events, etc.).
  • Identify appropriate training for store associates (on-the-job training, vendor training, etc.)
SAFETY, COMPLIANCE AND STORE ENVIRONMENT
  • Help enforce safety policies and procedures and serve as a safety role model.
  • Assist in conducting preventative safety and fire inspections and take appropriate actions to correct all issues.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
  • Ability to provide motivation and leadership to associates storewide fairly and impartially.
  • Must have good verbal and written communication skills.
  • High analytical skills and the ability to delegate and be self-directed.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, time management, and project management skills.
  • Develop and maintain client relationships and strategic partnerships.
  • Dress according to company policy.
  • Possess a valid in-state driver's license with an acceptable driving record.
  • High School Diploma required and a minimum of 1 year of leadership experience in a retail or customer service setting.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The minimum physical requirements for this position include:
  • Ability to stand for an extended period, walk, reach, and bend to perform job duties.
  • Move and handle merchandise up to 50 pounds and fixtures throughout the store, which may involve reaching, crouching, kneeling, or stopping.
