What are the responsibilities and job description for the PH - Installer Helper position at Hawaiʻi Gas?

This position has a progression.

PURPOSE STATEMENT

Working as a crewmember, follows specific instructions, methods, or procedures to install, remove, exchange, relocate and/or maintain LPG tanks, cylinders, and associated appurtenances.

  • Assists the Installer 1/C in any and all of his/her job duties such as
    • The delivery, setting/relocation and installation of LPG tanks and cylinders, including the piping from tank to riser including the installation of short lengths of piping; installs meters, valves and regulators. Utilizes leak-detecting solution and gas detection or measurement equipment to ensure integrity ofthe installation and system.
    • The removal of LPG tanks and cylinders; ensure work and safety procedures are adhered to in the removal process and in the plugging of gas lines.
  • Performs general maintenance of tanks in the field including chipping rust and painting, changing covers, rlr fittings, regulators and meters, servicing valves, re-leveling/re-setting tanks, etc.
  • Responds to trouble calls for tanks and performs emergency response function; effectuates emergency repairs and/or shuts-down gas supply when appropriate/necessary. Stands-by at the site when necessary until properly relieved by appropriate personnel.
  • Provides and extends at all times a courteous and tactful demeanor when dealing with all customers or the public. May advise or instruct consumer in the proper care of the tank or cylinder.
  • Drives truck and maintains necessary truck supplies and equipment.
  • Operates boom truck, crane and forklift as required.
  • Performs clerical/administrative duties such as preparing reports, inputting data into the computer, etc.
  • Works in a safe and responsible manner. Complies with all safety rules, regulations and practices in effect and as established/adopted by the Company. Cooperates in the fullest in the promotion of safety, safe work habits, and good housekeeping to include the reporting of any unsafe conditions or acts to Company management. Maintains all EH&S training on a current basis.
  • Performs all other related work as required and/or directed.

Minimum Education & Work Experience

  • Preferably a high school graduate with technical schooling. Must complete all required Department of Transportation Federal/State and OSHA Federal/State courses and programs as a condition of continued employment.
  • At least one year progressive and successful experience in the job duties described.
  • Basic knowledge of pertinent codes, regulations, standards, and safety rules such as NFPA Pamphlet No. 58 and local plumbing code, in addition to standard practices and procedures.
  • Must have a good working knowledge of tools and equipment of the trade.
  • Requires a high degree of mechanical aptitude and a good safety record.


Required Licensure, Certification, Registration or Designation

  • Must possess a valid Class B, CDL license, with Hazardous Material endorsement, current Crane Operator's certificate, and valid Medical Examiner's Certificate per 49CFR 391.41 through 391.49.
  • Qualified to operate boom truck and forklift.


Working Conditions/Environment/Physical Demands

  • Primarily outdoor work.
  • Exposure to gas fumes varies from low to an occasional high concentration which requires the incumbent to use gas mask.
  • May be required to work after hours occasionally on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays; subject to emergency calls and on-call assignments.
  • No back or serious eye limitation, including color blindness or restriction on respirator use.
  • Work occasionally involves a heavy degree of physical effort.
