Recruitment Number 24-103TO, Court Reporter II, SR-25, Hilo, Hawaii.  

Note: In addition to receiving a base salary from the State of Hawaii, Judiciary Court Reporters are entitled to additional compensation for preparing transcripts in accordance with Hawaii Revised Statutes section 606-13 and the Rules Governing Court Reporting in the State of Hawaii. Takes verbatim records of civil, criminal, and Grand Jury court proceedings; transcribes and certifies typewritten transcripts; and performs other duties as required.Education Requirement: Graduation from high school. Work experience which required the ability to read, comprehend, and apply written directions or a high degree of verbal skill may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis.

Stenographic Requirement: Applicants must demonstrate the ability to take verbatim dictation at:
  1. 225 words per minute in question and answer testimony;
  2. 200 words per minute in jury charges;
  3. 180 words per minute in literary; and transcribe such dictation at an acceptable rate.
License Requirement: To qualify, applicants must possess a current certificate as a Hawai`i Certified Shorthand Reporter (CSR) issued by the Supreme Court through the Hawai`i Board of Certified Shorthand Reporters.*

*NOTE:  Applicants who do not currently possess a Hawai`i CSR certificate, but possess a Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certificate issued by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) may also apply. If you are selected for a position, you will not be able to start employment until you receive a Hawai`i CSR certificate issued by the Supreme Court through the Hawai`i Board of Certified Shorthand Reporters.

Education:  If you are using education as a substitution for experience, you must submit a copy of your transcript(s) or diploma(s) at the time of application.  If you are selected for a position, we will request an official transcript (not a copy) at a later date. The official transcript must indicate completion of the training and/or the awarding of the appropriate degree.

License: Applicants must submit a copy of a current Hawai`i Board of Certified Shorthand Reporters certificate or Registered Professional Reporter (RPR) certificate issued by the National Court Reporters Association (NCRA) or  Registered Professional Report (RPR) certificateat the time of application.
