For over 30 years, Hawaii Engineering Services has been the leader in supplying Hawaii with wastewater and water equipment. Our extensive product line covers nearly every aspect of municipal systems from pumps, electrical controls, valves, and instruments to wastewater treatment plant headworks, process, and UV disinfection systems.

Position Summary

As a Sales Engineer specializing in pump and process equipment, you will play a pivotal role in our company’s success by providing solutions to clients in water and wastewater. You will leverage your technical expertise to understand customer requirements, recommend equipment solutions, and effectively communicate the value of our products. You will identify sales opportunities, deliver technical presentations and provide exceptional pre-sales and post-sales support across a broad scope of new and existing customers.

Key Duties And Essential Functions

  • Act as resource for treatment solutions, including pumps, process equipment and related equipment, working with manufacturers to fully represent their products and solutions to customers.
  • Contact customers through a wide range of communications including but not limited to, in-person meetings, phone calls, emails, mailings, and seminars to communicate opportunities to extend initiatives with the company.
  • Collaborate with the sales team to identify, qualify and close sales opportunities
  • Develop relationships within the industry to increase opportunities to assist customers, including periodic mainland training and conferences.
  • Conduct technical presentations and product demonstrations for engineers and potential clients
  • Create Quotes, Sales Orders, Purchase Orders, and Submittals
  • Develop detailed project scopes for bids based on engineered plans and specifications.
  • Attend coordination meetings and construction jobsite visits/meetings.
  • Ensure reporting and communications is frequent and bi-directional.
  • Provide pre-sales and post-sales technical support and training, answering inquiries and resolving issues.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturers to customize equipment solutions.
  • Build strong customer relationships through regular communication and follow-ups.
  • Work closely with Project Managers to ensure successful equipment installations and commissions.

Required Qualifications

  • Excellent technical and product knowledge to effectively address customer inquiries.
  • Strong presentation and communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Exceptional problem-solving abilities and a customer focused mindset with the ability to forge relationships, facilitate sales process, provide engineering/technical support, adapt to unforeseen conditions and problem solve.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively manage time, prioritize tasks, and thrive in high-stress environments while coordinating with multiple teams and individuals.
  • Willingness to travel as required.

Preferred Qualifications

  • A high school diploma is required with 2 years of related experience OR an associate’s degree in technical and/or business discipline.
  • Bachelor’s degree in business, project management or engineering strongly preferred.
  • 2 years in technical sales or sales support experience or equivalent
  • Water/Wastewater experience preferred.
  • Proficient at MS Office, Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam Revu. Salesforce, Global Shop, AutoCAD not necessary, but a plus
  • Ability to read, interpret, markup/comment, and analyze construction plans
  • Ability to read, understand, markup/comment and extract data from contract specifications/bids
  • Ability to independently manage tasks, track progress, and identify solutions to ensure timely completion of assignments.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to stand; walk; and reach with hands and arms. The employee is occasionally required to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must frequently lift and move up to 10 pounds and occasionally lift and move objects up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. Employee must possess a valid driver’s license.

Compensation: $90,000 - 130,000k (dependent on qualifications and experience)

Position Type

This is a full-time position.

Travel

Travel is required for customer meetings (generally local), offsite training and tradeshows.
