JOB/POSITION TITLE: Outreach Coordinator

STATUS: Exempt

PRIMARY PURPOSE: The Outreach Coordinator will work to build community engagement around outreach programs and will provide support for the Hawaiian Humane Society's outreach services, surrender prevention and spay/neuter initiatives islandwide.

Reports To: Manager of Community Outreach

Supervises: Volunteers

ESSENTIAL DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

  • Personal, Program and Organizational Improvements. Support and advise on programs for pets of people in targeted areas including, but not limited to pets of people without homes. Assist in creating new initiatives involving outreach programs to those who are low-income and/or are unsheltered homeless pet owners, as well as other outreach programs as needed. Assist in maintaining current outreach programs such as Pet Kokua, the Pet Loss Support Group and Pet Visitation.
  • Education. Provide presentations for individuals of all ages in schools and other organizations islandwide to promote responsible pet ownership in an effort to increase pet spay/neuter and reduce the number of unwanted, abused and neglected animals in the community. Work with the education team to integrate youth advocates into outreach events and initiatives.
  • Statistical and Financial Management. Maintain and analyze database and statistics for all outreach programs in both Excel and shelter data base systems. Work to continuously monitor the success of the outreach programs and implement changes as necessary. Assist in tracking department budget.
  • Interdepartmental Communications. Collaborate with Marketing, Development and Operations teams to maximize program awareness. Contribute ideas for internal and external improvements to the organization.
  • Training. Train and engage volunteers to assist with community outreach events and initiatives.
  • People and Animal Care. Provide excellent customer care to both internal and external stakeholders. Be compassionate when interacting with the public either in person or on the phone. Answer questions from the public and volunteers concerning the outreach program in a timely, professional and courteous manner. Treat all animals safely, humanely and with compassion. Treat all people with compassion and respect.

OTHER DUTIES/FUNCTIONS:

  • Support Hawaiian Humane Society Advocacy, Education, Events and Communications Programs
  • Other duties as assigned

JOB CONDITIONS:

  • Working Conditions: Indoors and outdoors
  • Equipment Use: Occasional use of Hawaiian Humane Society and personal vehicles. PC computer, digital camera, printer, copier, telephone
  • Work Hours: Based on operational requirements. Must be available full-time with flexibility for evenings, weekends and holidays.

MENTAL, PHYSICAL AND COMMUNICATION DEMANDS:

  • Must maintain and present personal conduct, personal appearance and office space as a professional. Includes well-groomed and professional appearance and tidy office areas.
  • Must exercise compassion, patience, professionalism, flexibility and tact when dealing with a broad range of volunteers and the public including difficult, emotional or angry people.
  • Must have a flexible disposition to work with and engage a variety of clients, volunteers, supporters and donors.
  • Must be committed to behaving in an ethical manner.
  • Must be committed to developing a deep knowledge of progressive animal welfare issues.
  • Must stand, walk, bend and stoop frequently to perform duties. Have the ability to perform prolonged strenuous physical activity, including lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 50 pounds with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • Must be able to multi-task in a fast-paced office and work with multiple priorities and deadlines with accuracy.
  • Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills, including reporting and editing ability and some experience in presentations.
  • Valid driver's license, good driving record, access to own automobile and proof of no fault insurance required.
  • Must agree with and be committed to Hawaiian Humane goals, objectives and programs.
  • Must have the ability to engage proactively and cooperatively with governmental, community, and animal welfare stakeholders.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Skills/Knowledge: Requires computer literacy and knowledge, including Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Strong organization and project management skills required.
  • Education/Training: Minimum Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience in the relevant field preferred.
  • Experience: 1-2 years of outreach experience preferred.
