What are the responsibilities and job description for the Child Development Specialist 2nd Shift position at HAYMARKET CENTER?
Description
Foster an understanding of the many needs of women and children in a transitional housing setting. Teaches parenting skills to mothers who have been addicted and/or dysfunctional in behavior patterns.
- ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- serve as a role model for positive parenting
- teach activities and skills which are appropriate for children, mothers and staff in residence
- implement a parenting skills group, a children's group and mother/child interaction group
- meet with mothers individually to assess and discuss the needs of each child in residence
- assist the women in learning appropriate activities and skills for their children
- implement specific teaching techniques and/or activities as recommended by the Supervisor
- observe and monitor the interactions between mothers and their children, documenting pertinent information about mother-child interactions
- assist the women regarding their needs, questions and concerns about the care of their children
- network and refer any children in need of evaluation for any developmental issues
- follow programs and guidelines established by the Supervisor
- maintain record of birth certification immunizations and other information (medical/social history)
- assist with selecting items relevant to child's nutrition or development; which includes escorting clients for daily shopping, daycare services and other duties assigned by supervisor
- must pass DCFS background check
Requirements
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
- Bachelor's degree in Child Development; or related field (preferred);
- 6 College Credit hours in Early Childhood; Human Development or Child Psychology;
- experience in early intervention and early education (0-3 years) child care;
- must be knowledgeable about issues regarding substance abuse, childcare, parenting skills and abuse prevention for families;
- must have a valid driver's license.
