Activity Assistant - Full Time
Summary
We are looking for an
energetic, patient, creative and caring person to be responsible for leading
individual and group recreation programs to meet the physical, social,
emotional, intellectual, and spiritual needs of Memory Care residents. Responsible
for activity programs specifically for residents in a dementia care
environment. Ensure residents’ lives are sustained to the fullest extent by
providing engaging activities and maintaining positive relationships with
families.
This is a full time position, Monday – Friday, 8 - 4:30. Some holidays and occasional evening/weekend hours are required.
Responsibilities
- Works with the Campus
Activity Director to design a creative and exciting monthly calendar that
includes one-on-one programs as well as group activities that will meet the
needs and interests/health of our residents.
- Leads and/or oversees
individual and group activities for all levels of dementia/cognitive impairment
on a daily basis, encouraging resident participation.
- Works with community
volunteers with the Campus Activity Director.
- Plans and attends
outings in the local community.
- Able to successfully
participate in the Memory Care team facilitating person-centered approaches to
behavioral expressions with resident care.
- Greets new residents
making a special effort to include and engage them in activities and introduce
them to others with similar interests and backgrounds.
- Maintains electronic
documentation of all activities, resident participation levels, and acceptance
of each activity by residents as required by state law.
- Maintains the activity materials
and storage area in a neat, clean manner.
- Maintains
confidentiality of verbal and written information pertaining to residents,
co-workers, and families in the facility per the HIPAA Privacy Act.
- Performs any other
duties or special assignments as directed by the Campus Activity Director,
Director of Nursing, or Administrator.
Qualifications
To perform this job
successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty
satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the
knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. - Must have an outgoing,
upbeat personality and enjoy leading groups of residents.
- Interest in
arts/crafts/music is preferred.
- Must possess the
ability to quickly adapt to unexpected changes and make independent decisions
when circumstances warrant such action.
- Enthusiastic and able
to inspire and motivate self and others.
- Maintains professional
working relationships with all residents, associates, families, vendors, etc.
- Enjoys working with the
elderly and relates well to seniors.
- The ability to drive 12
passenger bus is preferred but not required.
- High school diploma or
general education degree (GED); and three to six months related experience
preferred and/or training in direct service with older adults, or equivalent
combination of education and experience.
- Knowledge of dementia,
particularly of the Alzheimer’s type, is helpful.
