Security Courier- Health First Safety

POSITION SUMMARY

To be fully engaged in providing unarmed security services to ensure the safety and security of

associates, patients, and visitors of Health First facilities.

PRIMARY ACCOUNTABILITES

1. Picks up and delivers incoming/outgoing USPS Mail to/from Holmes Regional Medical.

Center mailroom to Health First entities.

2. Picks up and sorts all interoffice mail at all Health First entities.

3. Picks up, logs, and transports cash bags, supplies, bio-hazard specimens, x-rays, medical

records, surgical instruments, payroll, blood platelets, medication, and lab supplies to/from

Health First entities.

4. Conducts daily vehicle safety inspection and monitors vehicle maintenance requirements.

5. Conducts patient escorts, patient watches, and provides safety escorts; assists and/or

transports deceased to morgue.

6. Completes required shift logs and reports; complies with site post orders, and Health First

policies and procedures.

7. Completes required shift logs and reports; investigates and prepares reports on accidents,

incidents, and suspicious activities.

8. Assists associates, patients, and visitors in a courteous and professional manner

9. Performs Security Officer duties, as needed:

a. Performs security patrols of designated areas on foot or in vehicle.

b. Investigates suspicious situations.

c. Warns violators of rule infractions such as loitering, smoking or carrying prohibited

articles.

d. Sounds alarms or calls police/fire department in case of fire or presence of

unauthorized persons.

e. Watches for irregular or unusual conditions that may create security concerns or

safety hazards.

f. Monitors entrances and exits; permits authorized persons to enter property and

observes departing persons to protect against theft of company property and ensure

authorized removal of property is conducted within appropriate physical security

requirements.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Education: None
• Work Experience: Minimum one (1) year verifiable work experience preferably in courier,

security, or customer service role.

• Licensure: Valid Driver’s License and clean Motor Vehicle Report within thirty (30) days of start

date and maintained.

• Certification: At least one (1) of the following certifications within thirty (30) days of start date.

o American Heart Association (AHA) Heartsaver First Aid CPR AED course OR

o American Heart Association Basic Life Support (AHA BLS) Healthcare Provider

Completion Card.

• Age Requirement: 21 years of age or older.
• Skills/Knowledge/Abilities:

o Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.

o Must be able to speak/understand written and verbal instructions in the English

language.

o Expected completion of Crisis Prevention Training within first 90 days.

o Physical ability to deal with or subdue mental health patient in crisis.

o Must be willing to carry out tasks that may require entering the hospital morgue and

the roof-top helipad.

o Ability to operate radio or telephone equipment and/or console monitors.

o Ability to actively listen, interact cordially and effectively communicate with the

public.

o Effective oral and written communication skills.

o Ability to assess and evaluate situations effectively.

o Ability to identify critical issues quickly and accurately.

o Ability to read, write, speak, and comprehend conversation and symbols in the

English Language.

o Attention to detail.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS

• Physically agile; may require walking, standing, running, bending, stooping, kneeling, climbing,

or crouching frequently.

• May occasionally include lifting or moving objects up to 50 pounds, with or without assistance.
• May require moving in different positions to accomplish tasks in various environments including

tight and confined spaces, including reaching out and above shoulders, or overhead.

• May lift, turn, pull, push, or ambulate people and/or equipment with or without assistance up to

90% of the assigned shift.

• May be exposed to inside and outside environments with varied temperatures, air quality,

lighting, and/or low to loud noise.

• May require working with biohazards such as blood/body fluids and airborne particles following

OSHA and CDC guidelines.

• Communicating with others to exchange information.
• Visual acuity and hand-eye coordination to perform tasks.
• Workspace may vary from open to confined, onsite or remote.
• May require travel to various facilities within and beyond county perimeter; may require use of

personal vehicle.
