Job Title: Educational Audiology Assistant

Location: New Hampshire

Job Summary: The Educational Audiology Assistant is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of amplification and remote microphone hearing assistance technology (RM-HAT) used in educational settings. This position involves traveling to various school sites to ensure the proper operation of hearing technology used by students and teachers, providing follow-up in-service training on the correct usage of the equipment, and maintaining an inventory of devices and equipment. The technician will work under the general supervision of the district’s Educational Audiologist and will have the autonomy to make decisions related to the job. This position does not involve supervisory responsibilities.

Part time, hourly: 15-20 hours per week with opportunity to increase hours

Hourly Pay: $17/hour based on experience and qualifications

Reports to: Hear to Learn Manager, Rachel Parkington, AuD

FLSA Status: Non-exempt

Essential Job Functions:

Equipment Maintenance and Repair:

  • Travel to school sites to perform scheduled equipment checks and respond to repair requests. This includes follow up visits after initial hearing assistive technology fittings and ongoing equipment support.
  • Provide troubleshooting assistance for amplification and remote microphone hearing assistance technology (RM-HAT).
  • Perform minor in-office repairs to equipment, and process equipment for manufacture repair, as needed.
  • Ensure all equipment meets safety standards and is up to code.

Inventory Management:

  • Maintain an accurate inventory of all hearing assistive technology, parts, and related equipment.
  • Order new parts and equipment when needed, ensuring timely delivery and tracking of purchase orders.
  • Monitor service contracts and warranty information for equipment and ensure compliance with timelines.

Liaison with Audiologists:

  • Serve as a liaison between teachers, students, and licensed audiologists to ensure that hearing equipment needs are met.
  • Respond promptly to any equipment-related issues and escalate to the audiologist, when necessary.
  • Provide feedback to the audiologists on the functionality of hearing equipment and suggestions for improvement.

Record Keeping and Reporting:

  • Keep detailed records of equipment checks, repairs, and any training provided to staff.
  • Prepare and submit regular reports on equipment status, inventory, and the services rendered, ensuring transparency and accountability.
  • Assist in evaluating the performance and effectiveness of hearing assistive technology.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Good knowledge of the operation of amplification and remote microphone hearing assistive technology (willing to train).
  • Ability to demonstrate proper use of hearing technology and provide training to others (willing to train).
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating effectively with staff, students, and audiologists.
  • Flexibility as it relates to schedule changes and the need for support in various school districts.
  • Ability to work independently and manage time effectively, especially when traveling between school sites.
  • Attention to detail with the ability to maintain accurate records, reports, and documentation.
  • Ability to make minor repairs to audiometric equipment and troubleshoot technical issues.

Minimum Qualifications:

Education and Experience Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree in Communication Disorders, Audiology, Speech/Language Pathology, or a related field OR
  • Bachelor's degree with at least one (1) year of experience working with hearing technology or as an interpreter or language facilitator OR
  • Associate’s degree with three (3) years of experience working with hearing technology or as an interpreter or language facilitator OR
  • High school diploma or equivalent with five (5) years of experience working with hearing technology or as an interpreter or language facilitator OR
  • Equivalent combination of training and experience as outlined above.

Special Requirements:

  • Valid driver’s license to facilitate travel to various school locations within New Hampshire. Applicants must have a form of transportation.
  • Background clearance from Hear to Learn and participating school districts as required for direct contact with students and access to school sites.

Working Conditions:

  • This is a field-based position requiring travel to multiple school sites within New Hampshire. Travel is variable, but can exceed 150 miles per week.
  • Occasional lifting and handling of equipment may be required, with a typical load of up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to work independently, manage a flexible schedule, and adapt to varying school environments.
  • Must be able to work in both office and school environments.
