The Athletic Director will work with both the middle school and high school principals to ensure that both athletic programs function effectively and in a manner that promotes safety, integrity, and player development.
REPORTS TO: Superintendent
JOB OBJECTIVES:
- Demonstrates prompt and regular attendance.
- Communicates effectively and appropriately within the school and community.
- Observes and evaluates the performance of head coaches.
- Organizes and conducts regular meetings with coaches to ensure knowledge of and compliance with county and state practices, procedures, and regulations.
- Provides for and encourages opportunities for coaches to participate in clinics, workshops, staff development and state/regional conferences.
- Promotes public relations and facilitates positive communications between the school and community. This communication shall include social media and athletics’ website to the entire school community.
- Evaluates, interprets, implements and makes recommendations regarding policies and procedures; assists with disciplinary issues and investigations involving athletics; assists in the preparation of the Office of Civil Rights (OCR) reports in regards to athletics.
- Assists administrators in the recruitment and interviewing of head coaching candidates.
- Serves as a representative to region and state committees as appointed by appropriate officials.
- Acts as an intermediary between Heard County Schools, the Georgia High School Association, RESA and State Department of Education (includes all student eligibility reports, NCAA Clearing House, hardship applications, sanctioning of events, administering officials and coaches exams, scheduling of rules clinics and distribution of GHSA Items of Interest and other literature); responds to public/parent concerns regarding athletics for Heard County; middle school conference, region and Georgia High School activities.
- Acts as the Title IX Coordinator as it relates to Gender Equity Compliance for the Heard County School System.
- Ensures that community coaches have completed fingerprinting and background checks before interacting with athletes.
- Supervises the maintenance and operations of all athletic facilities (includes restrooms, concession areas)
- Ensures that transportation and officials have been secured for all athletic events for both the middle and high school.
- Organizes and supervises with the administrative team all extracurricular activities of the students and school.
- Implements procedures to insure the safety and welfare of students and staff including traffic control and student transportation; ensures all student physicals are complete before the start of season.
- Ensures that gate workers and appropriate equipment/money is available for gates.
- Organizes and manages meetings, conflicts, reports and paperwork related to athletics.
- Work with principals to determine events that need School Resource Officer coverage and work with the lead SRO to get those events covered.
- Monitors team budgets and oversees the administration of the general athletic budgets at both the high school and middle school. The Athletic Director will also monitor athletic fees while considering the budgets and balances of accounts of each team.
- Works with all coaches to ensure a profitable and well-run Silent Auction.
- Works with coaches to ensure a quality athletic banquet for all sports.
- Demonstrates consistent appropriate fiscal management of funds for which he/she is responsible in compliance with all applicable rules and regulations.
- Attend beginning of the season parent meetings to ensure that clear and high expectations have been communicated to parents.
