Job Overview
As a Direct Support Professional, you will play a vital role in enhancing the quality of life for individuals with developmental disabilities and other special needs. You will provide compassionate care and support in various settings, including group homes, assisted living facilities, and community-based environments. Your responsibilities will include assisting clients with daily living activities, ensuring their safety, and promoting their independence.

Responsibilities

  • Assist clients with Activities of Daily Living (ADLs) such as bathing, dressing, grooming, and meal preparation.
  • Provide patient care and support to individuals with diverse needs, including those with Alzheimer’s, dementia, or autism.
  • Monitor clients' vital signs and overall health status while documenting observations accurately.
  • Implement care plans tailored to each individual's needs and preferences.
  • Administer medications as prescribed while adhering to HIPAA regulations.
  • Engage clients in meaningful activities that promote social interaction and cognitive stimulation.
  • Maintain a clean and safe environment by performing light housekeeping duties as needed.
  • Assist with mobility using equipment such as Hoyer lifts when necessary.
  • Collaborate with healthcare professionals to ensure comprehensive care for clients.

Requirements

  • Experience working in home health, hospice care, or long-term care settings is preferred.
  • Familiarity with patient observation techniques and monitoring is essential.
  • Knowledge of first aid and CPR certification is highly desirable.
  • Previous experience in caregiving or social work is a plus.
  • Ability to perform heavy lifting when assisting clients with mobility challenges.
  • Strong communication skills to effectively interact with clients, families, and team members.
  • A compassionate approach to working with people with disabilities or developmental challenges.
