Job Description: Business Architect (Workflow & Technology Alignment)

Overview

We are seeking a Business Architect to help our organization shift how business, operations, and IT collaborate. Today, too many initiatives begin with only the business perspective without a roadmap, capability assessment, or technology strategy. This role will help us mature into a proactive, architecture?driven model—one where IT is brought to the table earlier, business partners understand our engagement model, and solutions are evaluated against existing capabilities before we purchase or build new ones.

This position will play a critical role in shaping how we operate, driving alignment across stakeholders, enhancing decision-making, and ensuring that we invest only in technologies that fill real gaps—not ones we already have solutions for internally.

Key Responsibilities

Business Architecture & Capability Assessment

  • Build, mature, and formalize the business architecture practice, ensuring every initiative is aligned to a clear roadmap.
  • Assess internal capabilities to determine whether proposed gaps truly require new solutions or can be fulfilled by existing technologies.
  • Prevent redundant technology purchases by identifying overlap and promoting the reuse of internal solutions.

Workflow Redesign & Early IT Engagement

  • Shift the current workflow—business ? procurement ? IT—to a model where IT is engaged earlier in the process.
  • Add structure and “spot gaps” to ensure initiatives do not bypass essential architectural tollgates.

Stakeholder Engagement & Persuasion

  • Persuasively communicate to lines of business how they should now engage with IT, and why this new model protects them, accelerates execution, and reduces rework.
  • Act as a partner—not a blocker—by shaping solutions in terms of “how we can do this”, not “why we can’t.”
  • Build business trust by translating between business needs and IT capabilities with strong business acumen.

Strategic Ownership & Organizational Build?Out

  • Help stand up the broader business architecture organization
  • Contribute to meeting organizational OKRs, including reducing net-new technology purchases by ensuring proper architecture evaluation.
  • Assist in defining what “good” looks like for a fully built business architecture practice, including processes, engagement models, and tollgates.

Partnership & Collaboration

  • Work closely with business stakeholders, procurement, operations, IT leadership, and architecture teams to redesign interaction models.

Required Skills & Qualifications

  • Proven experience in business architecture, enterprise architecture, or business/IT alignment roles.
  • Strong capability analysis and technology evaluation skills.
  • Ability to persuade and influence business partners, particularly in environments with ambiguous or competing priorities.
  • Excellent communication skills with the ability to speak the language of business and translate into technology implications.
  • Experience working in organizations where IT is evolving from reactive to strategic.
  • Comfort navigating cultural and operational challenges, especially when shifting long?standing engagement patterns.

Preferred Attributes

  • Demonstrated success designing or maturing a business architecture practice.
  • Ability to balance long?term organizational strategy with immediate tactical needs.
  • Experience facilitating cross?functional decision-making with stakeholders who may not initially see the value of architecture governance.
  • A consultative mindset with the ability to stand up new processes and influence adoption.

What Success Looks Like

  • Business partners consistently engage IT early in the process.
  • Fewer redundant technology purchases and stronger re?use of internal solutions.
  • A clear, documented roadmap for initiatives and capability gaps.
  • A maturing business architecture practice with scalable workflows, tollgates, and approval paths.
