What are the responsibilities and job description for the Hamblen CSU Registered Nurse position at Helen Ross McNabb Center?
Location: Hamblen County, TN
Schedule: 12-hour shifts | Rotating weekends | 24/7 program
The CSU Registered Nurse serves as a key clinical member of a multidisciplinary crisis team, providing direct medical and psychiatric nursing care to individuals experiencing acute behavioral health crises. This role requires strong clinical judgment, multitasking ability, and comfort working with clients with Severe and Persistent Mental Illness (SPMI) and co-occurring disorders in a fast-paced environment.
- Provide direct nursing care to CSU clients, including crisis intervention and medical emergencies
- Complete RN intake assessments, triage referrals, and obtain admission orders
- Administer scheduled, routine, PRN, and IM medications; maintain MARs
- Obtain and document vital signs, UDS, BAL, pregnancy tests, and blood sugars as ordered
- Monitor client condition and communicate changes to prescribers
- Coordinate with Mobile Crisis, Walk-In Center, EMS, EDs, pharmacies, and community partners
- Participate in treatment team meetings, shift reports, and client transitions
- Complete timely electronic and paper documentation
- Assist with follow-up calls, prior authorizations, and bridge medication requests as needed
- Implement verbal and physical de-escalation techniques when required (facility-based only)
- Based at the Hamblen County Campus with some community coordination
- Combination of clinical, administrative, and occasional telehealth work
- Fast-paced, team-oriented, and client-centered crisis setting
Required:
- Active Tennessee RN license
- CPR/First Aid certification (or ability to obtain)
- Strong computer skills and EMR experience
- Ability to work 12-hour shifts, rotating weekends, holidays
- Ability to perform physical requirements including lifting, standing, and de-escalation techniques
- Reliable personal vehicle and certified driver status
Preferred:
- Psychiatric or crisis nursing experience
- Experience with SPMI and co-occurring disorders
- BSN or Psychiatric/Mental Health Nursing certification
