What are the responsibilities and job description for the General Education/Overage Para Educator (Teacher Assistant) position at Helena Public Schools?
- Assists with individual and small group pupil instruction; tutors pupils at teachers' request.
- Assists in maintaining discipline and other functions.
- Assist with attendance and related clerical matters.
- May escort students to and from various rooms.
- Associates Degree or at least two (2) years of post secondary education;
- A High School diploma or equivalent may be considered with a committment to enrolling in the Spring Para Educators Achieving Standards Successfully (PASS) training or other Title I recognized training.
- At least three (3) months of related experience and/or training;
- Or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience as determined by the District.
- These positions are covered by a collective bargaining agreement between the Helena School District and the Helena Education Association.
- Prior to employment, you must successfully complete the appropriate background check required for employment.

As a General Education/Overage Para Educator, you contribute to this mission by assisting students individually and in small groups. You will work as part of a team of 160 serving 8,000 students at 18 campuses across Helena.
Some of what you will do:
Current entry level salary range is $14.01 to $17.51 per hour depending on education level and applicable relevant school-related experience as determined by the district. This position includes a comprehensive benefit package including but not limited to paid sick and vacation leave, paid personal leave, paid school calendar related days, paid holidays and health benefit coverage including coverage during the summer break. Note: Salary amounts for the 2023-2024 school year have not been determined. Salaries will be adjusted accordingly.
