Helmel Engineering is engaged in the design, manufacture, sales and service of Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and related software. We serve the precision 3-dimensional inspection and reverse engineering needs of all major manufacturing markets including aerospace, automotive, construction, consumer products, appliances, medical devices and all other precision manufacturing concerns. Helmel is a vertically integrated manufacturer with most of our key operations within our Niagara Falls, New York, headquarters. We have thousands of systems in nearly 40 countries along with a talented team of employees and a 26,000 square foot facility where we are continuing to add additional manufacturing lines and new technology offerings.
Position:
The Machine Shop Manager is responsible for coordinating activities in the machine shop manufacturing environment. This includes directly managing the machine shop and the machinists engaged in machining operations to produce components through conventionally and numerically controlled machine tools. A Bachelor’s or technical degree and five plus years of experience is preferred in addition to the following abilities:
· Must be able to read and understand production drawings (mechanical and electrical)
· Ability to read and understand detailed blueprints as well as 3D models (CAD)
· Ability to use measuring instruments to inspect in-process parts
· Verify quality of incoming purchased and outsourced parts
· Establish or adjust work procedures when necessary to meet production schedules and optimize workflow through the machine shop, ensuring sufficient resources are available to complete tasks in the required time frame
· Experience in the selection of proper cutting tools for specific applications (e.g. reamers, end mills, boring bars, taps, drills, etc,)
· Proactively verify machines and fixtures as required to meet the production schedule
· Identify opportunities for improvement and propose a solution
· Manage the machine shop organization and maintenance of the work environment
· Manage machine operator’s work schedules
· Observe and enforce all safety procedures
· Ensure all shop equipment is in working order
· Provide meaningful guidance to machine shop staff when necessary
· Communication with management regarding any critical machine or operator issues
· Ability to make effective decisions with limited information
· Have adequate physical ability, including sufficient manual dexterity to perform their requisite manufacturing duties
Desired Experience:
· Knowledge of Coordinate Measuring Machines
· Knowledge of Maho CNC Machine
· Experience with CAD/CAM/design
· Knowledge of CNC machines/programming and manufacturing processes
· Management experience leading a team

Pay: $53,040.00 - $69,680.00 per year
