Duties and Responsibilities: This position Serves as legal counsel and attorney for the Henderson County Department of Social Services (DSS); prepares and assists with correspondence, responses, presentations, and other legal documentation. This position also Performs difficult professional duties as legal counsel and attorney for Henderson County, and particularly its Department of Social Services; performs related work as required. Work is performed under general supervision. Reports to the Assistant County Attorney.

Qualifications: Thorough knowledge of the principles of North Carolina juvenile, administrative and constitutional law; general knowledge of legal principles, precedents, and practices and their application to functions of local government and social services; general knowledge of current legislation affecting counties relating to social services; general knowledge of North Carolina General Statutes; general knowledge of the County policies and procedures; general knowledge of county government organization, practices, and problems; general knowledge of computers and various software applications, and other required office equipment; ability to analyze the legal aspects of social service problems and to provide sound advice and assistance to officials; ability to present statement of fact, law, and argument clearly, logically, and persuasively; ability to draft rules, opinions, and the like; ability to efficiently operate office equipment, including computer and related software required by the position; ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing; ability to attend work regularly; excellent interpersonal skills.

Education and Experience: Both graduation from an accredited law school and a current North Carolina law license are required. Experience in legal practice, particularly in the areas of family law, elder law and social services, is preferred.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $66,670.50 - $157,679.18 per year
