What are the responsibilities and job description for the Commissioning Agent position at HENRY ADAMS CONSULTING ENGINEERS?

We are seeking a knowledgeable and enthusiastic candidate to join our Commissioning and Energy Services team. Commissioning projects may include Mechanical/HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and sometimes architectural and related systems. Retro-commissioning, energy audits and site investigation services are frequently required. The Commissioning and Energy Services team also provides construction administration services for some of the firm’s projects.


Essential Functions:

(a) Design reviews including OPR, BOD, Plans, and Specifications.

(b) Review of submittals and shop drawings.

(c) Prepare commissioning plans, specifications, installation checklists, functional performance tests, and other commissioning-related documents.

(d) Coordinate and attend on-site commissioning meetings, review installations, and controls coordination meetings.

(e) Execute construction phase review services consisting of submittal review, RFI responses, supplemental instructions, develop and maintain issues logs, prepare field reports and meeting minutes.

(f) Coordinate, direct, and document the functional testing of MEP systems and controls.

(g) Utilize Microsoft Office, Adobe Acrobat and/or Bluebeam, Revit and/or AutoCAD and other industry software.

(h) Participate actively in client meetings, conduct field surveys, including crawl spaces and above ceilings, and thoroughly document existing conditions.


Competencies:

(a) General understanding of building systems across disciplines and fundamental knowledge in at least one discipline such as HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, instrumentation and controls.

(b) Understanding of MEP engineering concepts and installation best practices.

(c) Construction drawing and specification interpretation experience.

(d) Strong knowledge of the design, construction, and commissioning processes

(e) Understanding of local energy codes and commissioning requirements.

(f) Field experience strongly preferred, including experience using data loggers and air flow measurement equipment.

(g) Understanding of applicable design codes, design standards and specification requirements, and the ability to interpret them.

(h) Knowledge of design and construction practice, including sequencing and responsibilities.

(i) Communicate, collaborate, and coordinate effectively with clients, co-workers, and others.

(j) Excellent technical comprehension.

(k) Multi-tasking is a must.

(l) Committed to maintaining a high standard in the delivery of technical solutions, customer service, and business ethics.


Education and Experience:

(a) Required -

(i) Minimum of seven (7) years of commercial construction experience in HVAC, controls or electrical systems installation.

(ii) Minimum of seven (7) years of MEP commissioning and/or energy services including energy audits, retro-commissioning, benchmarking, and troubleshooting.

(b) Preferred -

(i) Four-year college degree.

(ii) Commissioning certification (CxA or comparable)

(iii) Trade, Inspection, or Professional Engineering license.

(iv) LEED certification

(v) Familiarity with energy modeling software.

(vi) Significant controls experience.


Work Authorization/Security Clearance - This position requires the ability to pass a background check and obtain clearance for client and government contracts. United States citizenship is a must.


Travel - This position requires regular day trips throughout the Mid-Atlantic area. It may require an occasional overnight trip and travel by plane. It requires a valid driver's license and appropriate vehicle.
