Job Title: Landscaper I

Department: Farm

Location: 110 Bonlinda Ln, Williams, OR, 97544

Schedule: Monday - Friday 7:00 am - 3:30 pm Seasonal Job March-December

Pay: $16.50/hr


Summary: This position is responsible for the maintenance of assigned gardens, lawns, and/or landscapes, by cultivating a wide variety of herbs and landscape plants, maintaining landscaping as directed, and assisting with new hardscape and plant installations, thereby contributing to the positive public relations of the organization.


Essential Duties & Responsibilities: Include the following, other duties may be assigned:

  • Ensures that assigned lawns are maintained properly, by mowing, edging, and applying organic fertilizers as directed. Assures that lawns are mowed, trimmed, and irrigated regularly. 
  • Ability to effectively and safely use hand tools for weeding and pruning and maintaining proper storage of tools as directed.
  • Ensures optimal appearance of assigned landscapes, by actively working in each area under close supervision, i.e. preparing soil and grading terrain, applying fertilizers and mulches, weeding, pruning, and transplanting shrubs and plants as needed to maintain all assigned areas.
  • Experience with using mowers, leaf blowers, and weed whippers safely and effectively under the direction of the lead gardener.
  • Willingly provides backup for members of the Farm Crew as needed to ensure the production timelines are met.
  • Maintains trees and shrubs properly, by pruning and fertilizing as recommended.
  • Willing to learn and help maintain basic irrigation system components, design, and repair.
  • Ensures safe working conditions, by following established safety procedures at all times and attending regular safety training.  Serves as a good role model by practicing safe work habits and supporting all safety guidelines.

Requirements

Education & Experience: 

  • High school diploma or GED
  • 1 year of related hands-on experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience. 
  •  Familiarity with the cultivation of herbs preferred

Certificate and Licenses:

  • Current valid Driver’s License 

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Ability to carry out detailed oral or written instructions.
  • Ability to work in a team environment without close supervision.
  • Must pay close attention to detail, ability to detect issues and troubleshoot.
  • Participates in all team meetings, sharing ideas on continuous process improvement with the supervisor and team members.
  • Fosters teamwork and collaboration and provides support across the farm and irrigation crew.

Language Skills: Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.  Ability to write simple correspondence.  Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. 

Physical Requirements: Frequent walking, bending, reaching, standing while performing tasks; must be able to lift up to 49 lbs. frequently. Work conditions include exposure to outdoor weather and is based in a non-climate-controlled environment. It can be noisy requiring PPE as well as; exposure to airborne particles, fumes/dust, and aromatics from plant material.

Reasoning Skills: Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Interpersonal Skills: Ability to quickly organize and communicate thoughts, and to understand communications from others. Ability to maintain composure, listen, and respond appropriately.
