Job Description: CNC 5-Axis Machinist/Mill Machinist
Position Overview:
As a CNC 5-Axis Machinist, your main responsibility is to operate and maintain computer numerical control (CNC) machines to produce precision components and parts. You will be responsible for setting up machines, selecting appropriate tools, and ensuring accurate machining according to blueprints or instructions.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Machine Setup:
- Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM files.
- Set up and configure CNC machines, ensuring proper alignment and positioning.
- Install and adjust cutting tools, fixtures, and workpieces for accurate operations.
2. Programming and Operation:
- Program and input machining parameters into CNC machines using G-code or other control languages.
- Monitor and control machine operations, including speed, feed, and coolant systems.
- Conduct routine checks to ensure machining accuracy and make necessary adjustments.
3. Tool Selection and Maintenance:
- Select appropriate cutting tools, tool holders, and fixtures for specific machining tasks.
- Perform routine maintenance on CNC machines, such as cleaning, lubricating, and replacing worn-out parts.
- Conduct regular tool calibration and tool life management to optimize machining performance.
4. Quality Assurance:
- Inspect finished components using precision measuring tools like calipers, micrometers, and gauges.
- Conduct quality checks throughout the machining process to ensure compliance with specifications.
- Identify and troubleshoot issues or defects, making necessary adjustments or notifying supervisors for assistance.
5. Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of production data, including material used, machine settings, and production time.
- Generate reports detailing production output, quality metrics, and any production issues.
- Collaborate with team members and supervisors to improve processes and enhance efficiency.
Skills and Qualifications:
- High school diploma or equivalent; additional technical certification or education in CNC machining is preferred.
- Proven experience as a CNC machinist, particularly in 5-axis machining-5 year minimum.
- Thorough knowledge of G-code programming and CNC machine operation.
- Proficient in reading technical drawings, blueprints, and CAD/CAM files.
- Strong understanding of machining principles, tool selection, and cutting parameters.
- Competency in using precision measuring tools and performing quality checks.
- Ability to troubleshoot and adjust CNC machines and tools to maintain accuracy.
- Excellent attention to detail and strong analytical skills.
- Strong teamwork and communication abilities.
- Ability to work effectively under deadlines and prioritize tasks efficiently.
