Summary
The Head Coach of HCC Spirit Squads is responsible for the coordination of the total Spirit Squads program (Cheerleaders and Dance Team) at Highland Community College.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
Basketball: 14-16 home games per year plus any playoff games
Directly supervises part-time assistant coach and/or student workers as assigned. Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization's policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing and hiring in accordance with Human Resource procedures; training, planning, assigning, and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employee; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

Education And/or Experience
Bachelor's degree preferred; Must have or be willing to get AACCA Spirit Safety Certification. Related experience and/or training desired. Experience in prevention and care of athletic injuries desired.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations
Must have a valid driver’s license and with no major driving infractions within the last five years.
Language Skills
Ability to read, analyze, and interpret common journals, financial reports, and legal documents. Ability to respond to common inquiries or complaints from students, employees, or members of the general public. Ability to write speeches and articles for publication that conform to prescribed style and format. Ability to effectively present information to top management, public groups, and/or boards of directors.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to work with mathematical concepts. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts, and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
- Hold practices a minimum of 6 hours per week (3 hours for each sport).
- Attend all home football and basketball games:
Basketball: 14-16 home games per year plus any playoff games
- Actively recruit athletes to the cheerleading squad and dance team.
- Provide a summer camp/clinic experience for the Spirit Squad members.
- Attend Athletic Department meetings as required.
- Attend coaches' meetings and clinics for professional growth.
- Attend other professional meetings as necessary.
- Hold pre-season meeting with student-athletes to discuss philosophy of the program and inform them of
- Be familiar with and follow the policies of Highland Community College.
- Submit forms to athletic director as required regarding eligibility, roster, address, accident reports, etc.
- Be responsible for all recruiting activities of the Cheerleading program.
- Supervise student-athletes in the areas of academic achievement and assist in player placement.
- Assume responsibility for conduct and well-being of all team members.
- Remain until all participants have left facilities or designate a responsible person to remain.
- Teach sportsmanship and set an example of good moral and physical behavior.
- Work continually with the Athletic Director and other coaches to observe, evaluate and upgrade the total athletic program.
