SUMMARY
The Student Success Center/Student Support Services Office Assistant supplies office assistance to those two offices as described below. May occasionally be required to work weekends and/or evenings for special projects.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
1. Provide general clerical services for the Director of Advising/Student Success Center and the
Student Support Services Project Director;
2. Process student attendance information for staff as requested;
3. Operate a variety of office equipment such as fax machines, photocopiers, telephone systems etc.
4. Create spreadsheets, coordinate correspondence, manage databases and reports, and documents using
desktop publishing software;
5. Update and maintain college information available to students;
6. Assist students in lab with computer usage and college information;
7. Project a positive and professional image for HCC with a polite, helpful mannerism;
8. Greet visitors and welcome them.
9. Assist visitors with location information, staff and classroom information, etc.;
10. Maintain equipment, computers, fax machine, copier, etc.;
11. Retrieve data from various sources;
12. Review records and update advisors in PowerCampus student record system;
13. Administer placement tests on early enrollment days and as needed;
14. Prepare signage and maintain testing room schedule;
15. Proctor exams for Disability Services and Online courses;
16. Maintain a "study atmosphere" in the lab SSS area and Library;
17. Maintain social media accounts for SSS;
18. Assist in the design of the newsletter for SSS;
19. Collect & review supporting documentation for SSS applications;
20. Create and maintain SSS student files;
21. Use Blumen software to track student usage of SSS program;
22. Assist SSS Director w/annual performance report (APR);
23. Maintain confidentiality on all information.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education and/or Experience
Associate's or technical degree required in office tech, business, or related field. Bachelor's degree desired.. Two years relevant work experience or demonstrated proficiency in data and word processing. Prior experience in an office setting desired. Must have strong computer skills and be able to learn new computer programs easily.
Language Skills
Strong listening, oral, and written communication skills. Ability to read and comprehend instructions, correspondence, memos, and governmental regulations. Ability to compose and type routine correspondence. Must have good communication and people skills. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to students, customers, and employees of the organization.
Mathematical Skills
Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ration, and percent and to draw and interpret graphs. Bookkeeping skills a plus.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out instructions furnished in written, oral, or diagram form. Ability to deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
Other Abilities and Skills
Must have good organizing, coordinating, and decision making abilities, and the ability retain composure under pressure. Demonstrated sensitivity and experience working with students and individuals from diverse social, economic, ethnic, academic, and cultural backgrounds required. Ability to work without close supervision and handle a varied job situation. Should have a service orientation and positive attitude toward students, employees, and community people who interact with the College.
