What are the responsibilities and job description for the Youth Advocate position at Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center?

Highland Lakes Family Crisis Center (HLFCC) is seeking a full-time Youth Advocate. The primary focus of this position is to provide support, advocacy, educational, social and recreational programming for children utilizing HLFCC's residential and outreach services. The Youth Advocate will assist in case management and will carry a caseload of approximately 10 families. The typical shift for this position is Monday - Friday 12:00pm-8:00pm. The Youth Advocate participates in the on-call rotation.

Duties include, but aren't limited to:

  • Plan and implement recreational and social programming to children residing in HLFCC's emergency shelter.
  • Plan and implement psych-educational groups for children participating in peer support group.
  • Provide case management to children and families utilizing HLFCC's services.
  • Serve as a role model for positive interaction with children.

Who we're looking for:

  • Possess a bachelor's degree in education, child development, social work or related field; OR equivalent life/work experiences.
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience working with children and a preference for applicants that have worked in a residential program, with homeless youth, or children that have experienced violence/abuse.
  • Have a valid Texas driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
  • Pass all required criminal history background checks.
