Highlands Oncology began in 1996 with three physicians and a desire to change the face of oncology care in our community. Dr. Malcolm Hayward, Dr. Dan Bradford, and Dr. Thad Beck knew that patients do better at home, in the community where they live and work, and where their support system is already in place. In furthering that goal, Highlands has grown with the region from a single location 26 years ago, to 6 locations in Northwest and Northcentral Arkansas today employing more than 750 diverse team members.

Job Summary:
Assist in the delivery of patient care and EMR utilization.
Work directly with and assists physicians, nurses, and advance practice providers.
Job Duties / Responsibilities:
Includes, but not limited to the following categories below:
Rooming MA
- Obtain and document height, weight, temperature, blood pressure, pulse, respiration, and oxygen saturation. Report abnormal readings/findings.
- Report patient complaints, questions, or concerns
- Report changes in patient status immediately
- Chart prep, which includes:
- Fee tickets
- Lab results, scan reports, and other diagnostics
- Medication lists
- Visit notes
- Required documentation/patient data entry
- Enter patient’s allergies, medications, medical, social, surgical, and family histories, cancer screenings, as well as, referring and patient’s other physicians
- Review patient’s medication list and keep it up to date.
- Comply with MIPS requirements
- Prepare patients for examination and/or procedures
- Keep exam and procedure rooms stocked with necessary supplies, linens, and instruments
- Complete weekly inventory of exam room and procedure room supplies and submit order to Supply Manager
- Monitor oxygen tanks and replace when empty
- Other possible duties:
- Prepare and sterilize instruments as needed
- May clean autoclave and change water weekly. Run control sterilization per protocol monthly. Clean and check full maintenance of autoclave quarterly. Clean door gasket bi-annually.
- Spanish interpretation for patients and providers. This only applies to those who meet criteria to be an Interpreter.
Lead MA
- Assist with completion of visit note and send to other providers
- Assist with completion of professional billing
- Assist with CPOE – computerized physician order entry
- Assist with scheduling blood orders and hospital admissions
- May call patients with normal lab or diagnostic results
- Assist Physician, Physician Nurse, and APP with tasks as needed
Infusion MA
- Restock beverages and snacks, blanket warmer, and supplies used by Infusion & Shot Nurses
- Wipe down beds and remake with clean linen
- After appropriate training, assist with Dignicap placement and monitoring
- The following responsibilities may be performed after completion of required training, and will be performed with nurse supervision:
- Discontinue peripheral IVs
- Injections, such as flu shots
- De-access ports
All MAs
- Assist with procedures such as bone marrow biopsies
- Perform EKGs
- Perform diagnostic swabs, such as COVID and flu swabs
- Transport specimens to Lab
- During patient emergencies, may act as a “runner” to obtain needed supplies and/or vital signs
- Replace laundry bags and sharps containers as needed
- Wipe down chairs in between patients
- Follow isolation precautions
