What are the responsibilities and job description for the HIL - Transportation Driver Tier 1 position at Hiland Dairy Foods Company, LLC?
The Tier I role is for a specialized group of Class A/Transport drivers whose responsibilities have a minimal degree of physical activity and customer service focus. The role primarily performs “drop and hook” deliveries.
Responsibilities:
- Drive truck over established route to deliver the product at customer locations.
- Perform Motor Vehicle Inspections on trucks to conform to DOT regulations and company policy and assist with routine maintenance on trucks.
- Exhibit courteousness toward customers, work cooperatively with co-workers and supervisors, maintain a neat appearance, and follow established policies and direction of management.
- Maintain vehicle and hours of service logs as required by DOT.
- Maintain reliable attendance and consistent work hours.
- Must be able to operate a handheld computer.
- Must be able to operate a powered lift truck (pallet jack).
Qualifications and Experience:
- English is the primary language skill; however, bilingual skills may be beneficial based on business necessity.
- Minimum 1-year verifiable experience driving Class A commercial vehicle preferred.
- Must have a Class A or B commercial driver’s license.
- Must be able to pass a D.O.T. Physical and Drug Screen
- Must have a good driving record, according to company requirements.
- Must Pass clearinghouse.
- Minimum Age: 21, as per Federal D.O.T. regulations
- Experience in food/beverage product delivery and customer service preferred.
- Ability to read, write, perform basic mathematical calculations, and accurately record data required.
- Must be willing to work overtime, weekends, holidays, and varying shifts, as required.
- Must be able to work independently.
- Excellent customer service, verbal and written communication skills required.
- Must be organized and detail-oriented.
Certificates/Licenses/Registrations:
- Must have Class A commercial driver’s license with Air Brake endorsement (must also possess a valid Medical Examiner’s Certificate in accordance with FMCSA Part 391.41 prior to operating a commercial motor vehicle for the company)
Physical Demand/Working Conditions:
- The transport Driver must be able to stack and unstack items weighing 50-60 from a height of approximately six feet to the ground and push/pull up to 300 pounds with a handheld hook.
- Must be able to frequently stand, walk, climb, bend, twist, push/pull reach at shoulder, above and below shoulder.
- Required to work in very hot (100° ) and very cool (less than 32°) and humid environments throughout the year.
- Required to work outside most of the time, regardless of the conditions. Exposed to noise and vibration
