QUALIFICATIONS:
Preference: completion of two years of college
Training in a variety of behavioral approaches.
Experience in the successful implementation of behavioral approaches with individual students.
The ability to effectively interact with parents, students, and school department personnel, utilizing both knowledge and tact to obtain or to furnish information, or to provide general assistance.
The ability to communicate verbally and in writing, handles stressful situations, shows initiative and works independently.
In accordance with M.G.L. 71, §38R, submit to a Criminal Offender Record Information Check and fingerprinting requirements.
REPORTS TO:
School Principal
JOB GOALS:
1.Provide academic, behavioral, and social support throughout the day for students who are receiving support services through an individual Education Plan (IEP).
2.To assist the teacher in achieving learning objectives by working with individual students or small groups to assist student learning.
3.To recognize when teaching/learning and behavioral strategies are not successful and seek the guidance of the classroom teacher(s) and specialist(s) to adapt assistance accordingly.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
Conducts learning exercises with small group and individual children.
Provides escort and assistance to children as necessary. Provide direct assistance to students to manage personal care, if assignment requires.
Works directly in 1:1 situations with students with a variety of needs, as assigned.
As directed by the special educators and service providers, observes and records academic, behavioral, and social data to measure progress.
Implements and demonstrates indicated behavioral strategies and interventions.
Assists the teacher in devising special strategies for reinforcing material or skills based upon an understanding of individual students.
Helps students with equipment or instructional materials assigned by the teacher.
Assists with the supervision of students, including during emergency drills, assemblies, specialist periods, and field trips.
Assists with large/whole group activities.
Takes direction from supervisor and implements feedback for improvement, as needed.
Assists classroom teachers and specialists in printing, copying, and organizing lesson materials.
Helps any substitute teacher assigned in the absence of the regular teacher.
Assumes the role of head teacher when that person must be away from the class.
Maintains the same high level of ethical behavior and confidentiality of information about students as is expected of all staff.
Maintains appropriate boundaries of the position. Refers all parent questions/concerns to liaison/teacher.
Familiarity with academic content for assigned grade levels.
Other assignments as determined by the principal or their designee.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
School Year position. Salary and work schedule to be established by the Superintendent.
