Position Description: Full Time Elementary School Teacher

Hillel Community Day School (www.hillelschool.org) of Rochester, NY has openings for energetic and skillful educators to join our team of outstanding teachers and students.

Job Summary: This is a full-time position teaching general studies to Elementary School students and providing support for our robust general studies education program.

Our School: Hillel Community Day School [HCDS] is a Pre K to eighth grade school that is part of a wonderful tight-knit community. The HCDS faculty is committed to academic excellence. Our families are committed to day school education; our intellectually curious students love coming to school, and there is a high level of collaboration among the faculty and our community. We are conveniently located in the town of Brighton, a suburb of Rochester, New York, close to numerous thriving synagogues, kosher food purveyors, and a large Jewish Community Center. Job description

  • Teaches English Language Arts, Social Studies, and first and second grade students using classroom and outdoor settings.
  • Collaborates with Judaic-Hebrew teacher and Judaic Studies coordinator to integrate Jewish and Hebrew educational components into the instructional program.
  • Develops and submits weekly lesson plans and instructional materials and provides individualized and small group instruction in order to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each student.
  • Uses a variety of instruction strategies, such as inquiry, group discussion, lecture, discovery, and hands-on activities to help students construct knowledge.
  • Translates lesson plans into learning experiences so as to best utilize the available time for instruction.
  • Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior needed to achieve a positive climate and functional learning atmosphere in the classroom.
  • Evaluates students’ academic and social growth, keeps appropriate records, and prepares progress reports and report cards.
  • Communicates with parents through conferences and other means to discuss students’ progress.
  • Identifies student needs and cooperates and collaborates with other professional staff members to implement research-based interventions.
  • Creates an effective environment for learning through functional and attractive displays, bulletin boards, and learning centers.
  • Selects and requisitions books and instructional aids; maintains required inventory records.
  • Supervises students in out-of-classroom activities during the school day.
  • Administers group standardized tests.
  • Participates in curriculum development programs as required.
  • Actively participates in faculty committees.
  • Actively participates in and attends school events and events related to student life that occur during and outside of school hours.
  • Attends meetings and professional development sessions during and outside of school hours as required.
