Position Summary:
The Mental Health Rehabilitation Specialist (MHRS) provides individualized, recovery-oriented support services to youth and/or adults receiving Specialty Mental Health Services under Medi-Cal, in alignment with the California Advancing and Innovating Medi-Cal (CalAIM) initiative. MHRS staff deliver community-based, strength-based interventions to support stabilization, skill-building, and engagement in mental health treatment, with a focus on achieving meaningful life goals.
Essential Responsibilities:
· Provide rehabilitative services as outlined in the client’s Treatment Plan/Individual Service Plan (ISP), including:
o Skills development (emotional regulation, communication, conflict resolution)
o Behavioral support
o Socialization and relationship-building
o Activities of daily living (ADLs) support
o Independent living and community integration
· Deliver services in settings that support client access and engagement, including home, school, and community environments.
· Support Care Coordination and collaborate with clinical therapists, case managers, probation, child welfare, education, and other systems.
· Document all services in accordance with Medi-Cal, CalAIM, and county documentation standards, including timely and accurate progress notes using approved EHR platforms.
· Participate in Child and Family Team (CFT) meetings or equivalent case conferences.
· Implement CalAIM-aligned practices such as whole person care, culturally responsive engagement, and trauma-informed services.
· Engage in regular reflective supervision, training, and quality assurance activities.
· Assist clients in crisis stabilization and safety planning, within scope of role.
· Support linkage to additional services including Enhanced Care Management (ECM), peer support, or substance use disorder treatment when appropriate.
Minimum Qualifications:
· Education: Bachelor’s degree in Social Work, Psychology, Counseling, Human Services, or a related field OR minimum of two years' experience in providing direct services to individuals with mental health needs under clinical supervision.
· Experience: At least one year working with populations impacted by trauma, behavioral health conditions, or system involvement (child welfare, juvenile justice, etc.).
· Other Requirements:
o Valid CA driver’s license and reliable transportation
o Background clearance (DOJ, FBI, CCL/CMS depending on program)
o Ability to work flexible hours including evenings/weekends if needed
Preferred Qualifications:
· Bilingual (Spanish, Hmong, or other threshold languages)
· Experience with Medi-Cal billing or service documentation
· Familiarity with CalAIM initiatives and principles
· Training in trauma-informed care, Motivational Interviewing (MI), or similar models
· Prior experience in community-based services, school-linked mental health, or wraparound programs
