Job Description Hamilton Lane’s Portfolio Management Group (PMG) is responsible for insightful, data-driven analysis pertaining to private markets portfolio construction, strategy, and risk. It interacts regularly with our global offices, reacts to external client needs, and provides proactive thought leadership to drive investment selection, client satisfaction and new business development. The group has a deep understanding of private markets investing and maintains a practitioner’s knowledge of statistics, econometrics, and data science. Hamilton Lane is looking to hire a Senior Associate to join the Portfolio Management Group. Senior associates will work closely with senior PMG and investment team leaders to develop and implement Hamilton Lane’s private asset portfolio strategy. They are responsible for the creation and maintenance of quantitative models, analytical tools, and data driven analysis to support to support portfolio construction decisions (asset allocation, investment pacing, opportunity allocation, structuring, liquidity), evaluate the drivers of portfolio returns, and respond to client research questions regarding private markets. Senior associates will apply their comprehensive knowledge of private markets to advise clients and prospects on matters related to portfolio construction. They will also work closely with Strategic Technology colleagues to develop and test new portfolio models and datasets. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Advise global clients on topics related to portfolio analysis, private markets asset allocation, and performance assessment Engage with Client Solutions leads and Relationship Managers to develop portfolio proposals & strategy recommendations for customized separate account clients that are consistent with Hamilton Lane’s portfolio construction best practices Develop / enhance portfolio models (cash flow forecasting, pacing, portfolio optimization, etc.), performance analysis tools, and performance attribution techniques for our global client base Work with investment team leadership & senior executives to establish Hamilton Lane’s portfolio construction framework & best practices. Use data driven, quantitative research to propose enhancements to the portfolio construction framework Conceptualize and author research papers and presentations on topics of client interest using Hamilton Lane’s proprietary datasets Respond to client queries and requests for analysis of the private markets industry using Hamilton Lane’s proprietary datasets Analyze third party reports, news, and academic research on private markets Train, mentor and oversee junior PMG analysts. Develop and lead firmwide training sessions on topics related to portfolio construction. Enhance & maintain the firm’s proprietary private markets datasets Partner with financial technology team to enhance, develop and test features & services for Hamilton Lane’s financial technology offerings Advise internal stakeholders on data related projects NECESSARY QUALIFICATIONS; Education and/or Experience: At least 5 years of experience working in financial services, consulting or data analytics. Familiarity with private markets or other alternative assets preferred. Demonstrated ability to formulate creative solutions to unstructured problems. An understanding of basic quantitative financial concepts, such as performance calculations, risk analysis, valuation techniques, portfolio optimization techniques, and / or statistical analysis. Proficiency with analyzing and modeling financial data in Excel Experience with statistical programming languages (R, Stata, Matlab, Python, etc.) and / or data visualization tools (Tableau, Qlikview, PowerBI, etc.) is a plus. Ability to lead small teams, supervise / train junior analysts. Experience interacting directly with clients, senior executives, and stakeholders on complex topics. Effective verbal and written communication skills. Must be able to work in the United States without requiring sponsorship.
